MMOs and Subscriptions

I have a thought, and where else to post it than the best place on the Internet. The XIV Forums.

But why do people who play this game stuggle with approaching it like other Subs they pay, you don't listen to everything on Apple Music, or Spotify, You don't watch everything on Crunchy Roll, or Cable, or Netflix, or Hulu. So why do you feel as if all content in the game needs to be available to everyone. Some content can be casual, or non-casual for the people who want that.

I agree with your general thought though I don't think you picked a good analogy.

The problem is gaming has become reward oriented. If there's a reward that's seen as highly desirable, players want that reward to come from content within their skill level and preferably that they also like.

Move the reward behind some sort of token/currency system that can be earned by doing multiple types of content and players will filter to the content that is seen as the most efficient to earn the token/currency even if they find it boring. Then they'll complain that there's no reason to do the content they enjoy because it was more efficient to do the other content.

I don't see it as something that will change until players start to value what they do as much or more than what they're getting.

Here's my secret; I don't pay for any other Subscription service.

Tried Crunchy once, but due to region lock, half of them weren't even available. So didn't see point testing beyond free Trial.

while they are all sub based content they all hold a pretty significant difference music being the biggest one, with any music app you can have just about unlimited content at all times even excluding the kind you dont like, which is something a video game can never do.

content like netflix or hulu while not as much as music content still has quite a bit and because of how terrible streaming services are becoming are pretty interchangable atm people drop and switch between them decently freely and without fear of missing out on anything cause you can't some how lock out tv shows or movies behind other content.

cable is garbage the absolute worst and will hopefully be fully dead sometime in the future.

to the idea the idea that someone has to get the most out of a sub in a mmo is quite normal because there will never be enough content to keep players happy 24/7 like some other forms of entertainment.
mmo's heavily rely on the players milking the content or the social aspects of the game to stay entertained or playing, once it becomes to tedious or at least more tedious then a said player wants to put in they either complain or leave.

Boomers tend to simply be out of touch with changes in the world. Also they grew up during a time where it was emphasized to "Always respect your elders". Many have held to this mindset their entire life and are now the elder that needs to always be respected within that mindset. The combination of those 2 things are the general cause of most issues with boomers.

I used to be with it.
Then they changed what it was.
Now what I'm with, isn't it. And what it is seems weird and scary to me.
