Dear Devs: Please help, small housing outdoor item count is NOT enough!

Dear Devs, I'm begging for your help! The outdoor 20-item limit for small housing is just not enough. My house is tastefully decorated with a garden, some trees, Chocobo stables, etc. I would like to add some extra flower pots/small decor, as I love flowers and gardens but I can not. I had to freaking remove my Dodo message book, which made me sad. Now, with the fall, I'd like to decorate in fall colors, but I only have a couple of items from spring/summer that I can change out.

25 items would help, but a 30-item limit would be about perfect. I'm sure this isn't a priority for you, but I feel so constrained. Given the limited number of plots for FC and individuals, I'm guessing the database storage isn't the blocker. I'm guessing you don't want to overload the items loaded in for console players, but surely there is a trade-off that could be made to increase the item count.

I know this idea would be hated, but I'd even be willing to purchase if an item count increase from the store. At this point, I'd do about anything just to be able to add a few more items.

Allow 20 unique items, but 40 in total. Duplicate items dont require more items to be loaded in, and only when close rendering is needed.

This should be fine for consoles as a limited rendering range is much easier to implement. Even if the total object count is doubled, most objects as they dont need rendering wont realy make the game more laggy.

The game is already well capable of limiting rendering when there are too many players (which with gear is significantly more objects), so if for some reason there are too many objects nearby, the game could use a similar detection.

This very same solution could even be used to get around the object limit indoors as partitions would then be a lot better compressed to just a few objects.

They're supposedly looking to make an increase in 7.0 but the issue I think tends to be all the data passing through for each object. As a reminder, it's an entire ward of objects being called for when outside of the house. That's a possibility of 730 objects currently and an additional 30 for each item allowance they consider adding. You have the position information, coloring, interaction settings, garden info, chocobo info and more not counting the house customization options. I'm not expecting much of a change with the outside limits because of this but even a couple slots would be nice.

My hopes for the item limit increase are an extra 100 indoor/10 outdoor fit every size across the board, with an extra 100 for apartments as well. I’m sure many would want it could use even more, but that would be a good start.

As Dustytome said, the outdoor limits are more problematic, since the wards are permanently loaded, whereas the inside of your house is an instance. Which is why we can have so many slots on the Island, and could have even more if there was an instanced housing system added alongside the existing housing wards.

I’ve heard a bunch of things from various interviews with the Devs lately… they are planning an item increase sometime during the Dawntrail patches, but no details as to exactly when or how much. And I think they were only talking about indoor, for the above reasons.

I’ve also heard that they’re working on ways to change the interior layout and size of houses… many seem to be interpreting this to mean having a Tardis-like small cottage outside with a large mansion inside, which could be cool if it gives you the item limits to match! Personally I’d be happy with an attic the same floor space as the ground floor for my cottage, while keeping the basement and adding another 100 item slots! Or the ability to add rooms like FC houses do, since those are instances as well. They can get away with a lot more in instanced spaces than they can the permanently loaded ones.

Yoshi-P said at Pax that they want to increase the indoor and outdoor item limits for all housing sizes sometime within the 7.x patch cycle.

He didn't give a definitive patch all he said was sometime within Dawntrail.

Also, PS4 still being supported is going to limit how far they can push this.

PS4 is a decade old now, the hardware is ancient...
