The black market no longer works for personal houses thanks to the lottery. It only works on FC houses since FC Master can be transferred after 30 days. Most players don't want to go the FC route to get a house for personal use.

Most multiple house owners also aren't after additional houses to decorate. They're after workshops for gil farming. A small interior works better for workshops - smaller plot/house means lower starting costs and the sooner the workshop will become profitable.
Actually some multiple owners actually do decorate multiple homes for the sake of photo studios; or multiple intricate set builds or RP locales. Also while the gil to purchase a small is less; less garden plots is a bit annoying and really niether "start" any faster; or are you referring to the fact that you can easily pick up a small generally long before a large?

As for housing mirage I looked at the translations and am still curious what it entails. I strongly suspect the Mirage system is more to manipulate the interior but might not actually "make" the house the same on the inside. Which would raise ire if you could make your small look like a large inside.....with 200 items.....I could imagine the rage.

On the flip side if you pay the difference for a Small to a large (say 47m) then the smalls would complain that they should not pay for a large; the large owners will complain they had to put in more effort to get a large..

Further to flip the Large owners would ask why they went through the trouble they did to acquire their large.

I have a icky feeling that housing mirage is going to give us "interior" for houses - similar to how we currently can add a alphine facing to a house to change its functions outside (like a bath added) - Honestly if You could turn a small inside into a simple large retangle that you didn't have to cover the walls and pillars with; you would gain items and thus "space" there anyways.
