You realize that reddit post is 2 years old and predates the lottery, I hope.

There's also a good chance that the source of the screenshot was a scammer and not someone genuinely trying to resell.

The situation now is not what it was then. Supply of plots has increased by more than 50% in the past 2 years. The black market has to go through the lottery like every other player to try to get a plot and the ordinary player is far more likely to end up the winner.

Scarcity is what creates a black market. Houses with medium and large interiors will no longer be scarce. The only thing worth the black market's time would be the more desirable plot locations and they're going to have a hard time winning them in the lottery against all the players trying for those same plots.

At least it would make the market more expansive than ever before.

I don't buy into this doom-and-gloom scenario. More opportunities to own a mansion with existing homes means everyone with a home aren't bidding on a mansion any more.

    Exactly 100% this.

Imagine if our in-game content was the same way. "Oops, you didn't clear EX fast enough, we ran out of weapons to give. Sorry that's life."

Imagine how enraged Savage players would be if only the first 50 groups who cleared in 3 months got their weapon upgrades. Or crafting item loot was a gatekeeping thing of only 20 per year.

Now consider that I've been playing for 10 years without ever owning a Large. There are players who only played for months and got theirs. If this is a social engineering experiment, the only fairness is RNG. And before that, whoever clicked the sign first.

I still think instanced housing is the solution even 10 years later. But maybe the cloud servers will finally allow something similar.

The black market no longer works for personal houses thanks to the lottery. It only works on FC houses since FC Master can be transferred after 30 days. Most players don't want to go the FC route to get a house for personal use.

Most multiple house owners also aren't after additional houses to decorate. They're after workshops for gil farming. A small interior works better for workshops - smaller plot/house means lower starting costs and the sooner the workshop will become profitable.

"It would make every house a LARGE for the purposes of MOST players"

The black markets still exists due to most people willing to pay ANY amount after losing COUNTLESS lotteries.

The fact that a small could potentially have a large interior is beyond wild and honestly pretty cozy.

If this "housing mirage" is any close to what people are thinking then yes the prices would skyrocket.

People are always looking to upgrade from small -->Medium --> Large. Now in theory if you no longer needed to (unless you needed extierior) then you're looking at everyone who owns Anything inbetween holding onto their houses way harder.

Again this housing mirage could be a complete bust... if not.... Get ready for the Salt Mines to go even deeper.

Who is still losing lotteries to get their first house of any size? Not many players from looking the entry numbers on small plots in the lotteries. Someone else from Sargatanas was saying in another thread that there are several smalls available there now and some don't get bids.

The numbers are large on the mediums and larges because most of the entries are coming from players who already own (usually a small) but want to upgrade to the medium or large.

If Housing Mirage is implemented, what happens? Most of those owners who were trying to relocate lose interest in relocating because now they have that medium or large interior they were after. Demand goes down.

What drives a black market? Scarcity of a commodity that is in high demand. Lower demand does not improve conditions for the black market.

Exactly how do you think the black market is going to get a hold of a bunch of houses to sell when they have to fight the lottery and the only way to sell them if they win is if they are FC houses?

Who do you think they're going to sell to when anyone willing to go the solo FC route to get a house has probably already done so?

The black market will continue to be able to deal in the prime plots that players aggressively go after - if they're able to win those plots in the lottery competing against all the FCs trying to get those same plots. They're going to lose is the market from players who have been trying to relocate to upgrade interior size because that will no longer be necessary.

Trust me. Housing Mirage will not be a boon for the black market because the bulk of the demand they were serving will dry up overnight.

As for players holding onto their houses "way harder", there's already a scarcity of voluntary relinquishment. Housing Mirage is not going to make anyone hold onto their house any "harder" than they already are.

But you're right that the Salt Mines will be going deeper - among those who sell on the black market and will have few buyers looking for their services.

100% Right, it's the simplicity of Supply & Demand.

You increase the supply, demand goes down.

If Housing Mirage is implemented, demand goes down.

Most of those bids are people who already own a Small. Remove all of those bids, and the only people caring about a large exterior are the garden folks. That would knock down a huge chunk of bids. For folks like me, all I want to do is decorate the interior and have a place for all of my crowded furniture. And that's why I bid. If Housing Mirage is implemented, I will be one less person to compete.
