Stupid question but im confused, is geomancer a healer??
Don't recall anything specific in the few mentions of it's existence on a specific role for Geomancer, Only that it could help divine the future beside AST by tapping into the energy of the earth rather than the stars. For all we know they could fight like earthbenders... though not as good as toph since SE probably wouldn't give them metal bending for reasons... so you'd have to settle for being The Boulder...
I think, and hope, it will be a totem class (like the old totems of the shaman from WoW). If we get the geomancer. There is some evidence to this idea. 1, In the stormblood astro quest, we cleansed shines. 2, the turtles have relics that have power. These were used in EW.Don't recall anything specific in the few mentions of it's existence on a specific role for Geomancer, Only that it could help divine the future beside AST by tapping into the energy of the earth rather than the stars. From my understanding that was the original idea but Machinist came along and they couldn't figure out how to properly separate the two so they scrapped the whole thing. Which seems needlessly wasteful in my opinion, the ability to split off classes at thirty sounds amazing and would have opened up so many options.Well in the case of SMN and SCH, sure they used books but eventually the books separated into 2 types. If they'd gone forward with branching every base class into 2 jobs with different roles we might have seen things like lancer taking up a 1 handed pike and tower shield to be a templar filling the tank role, or a gladiator dropping the shield for a 2nd sword to be a DPS fighter job, etc...
I can see where the challenges are but it seems to me like they've already overcome them, what with Machinists focusing on heat gauge and gadgets. Musketeer could have focused on gun skills, maybe switching up to a two handed rifle and utilizing hand grenades and traps.
Eh well, c'est la vie.
IMO I feel like back then it would have resolved a fair amount of DPS crying over being the only role constantly waiting in DF queue back in ARR if every core class got a split at 30 to choose from 2 different roles that leveled together since the exp applied to the core class itself. Though back in ARR jobs also had to be unlocked via leveling a second core class which certain types of players were already crying over. From my understanding that was the original idea but Machinist came along and they couldn't figure out how to properly separate the two so they scrapped the whole thing. That's kind of the point. They want to encourage trial players to subscribe and/or purchase boosts by not allowing them to have the new shiny thing. Can also take it literally with them excluding Ultimates from the free trial. xD

I find it kinda weird to get a new job and it's already close to cap. Progression in this game is so weird.

Since this turned into that discussion, Green Mage and probably Corsair.
I started a new character and unlock Gunbreaker after only unlocking Sastasha and Tam-Tara. I leveled up solely from leveling roulette and PotD 1-10. It's definitely possible for new players to play the game with the new jobs.
