Took a break from the forums for the most part of 2 months, to play and enjoy the game and also new job...Not surprised to see the same half dozen or so folks complaining about the same things, but I find myself agreeing with Stormpeaks in this thread, to my surprise.

Am I the only one who remembers the early days of MMO's when players were thrilled to find a game that wasn't just about DPS and spreadsheets, but actually had social elements? Star Wars Galaxies comes to mind. For all the problems that game had, and there were many...The living, breathing world that each server had was so nice. It was like living a "second life" in Star Wars. There were cantinas with musicians and dancers that buffed, crafters of every kind, hell even politician was a job/class you could level...and player housing? Nahh, we had player created towns, built by, maintained, and named by players (shoutout to Som Crim on Dantooine)

Many people could (and famously did) play the entirety of the game as a crafter, entertainer, politician etc. and never touching combat. And it was wonderful. Im THANKFUL that FFXIV has such venues and stuff to do other than just engage in combat.

I still love the story, the music, the worlds, etc. Those things make FFXIV the perfect blend of sandbox and theme park elements. Spoon fed story driven content on rails, and virtually unlimited player created content too.

And ALL of it is optional if you dont want to participate in any of it you dont have to.

Except FFXIV has... none of that, lol. It's literally all nightclubs with Twitch DJs and 18+ venues.

"Don't participate if you don't want to" only works when it keeps to itself, which it hasn't done for a while now. It's leeched over into PF and chat to an obnoxious degree, and expecting people to actively ignore parts of the game that can actually be useful for them to get away from it is basically sticking your hand in the sand because it's something you enjoy. You might like it, but when it starts stepping on the boundaries of players actually using the game for its intended purpose, then it's an issue.

Same. Posting less and less and finding I'm not missing anything. Same topics and people who just spend all their time worried about what other people do in their houses. It's really sad. Maybe if they had more going on in their own lives to focus on they wouldn't spend time busying themselves with such things.

Edit: Wouldn't hurt to add an RP tab and call it a day so people can stop complaining endlessly. Weird when the last time this came up several people also went to PF and showed that non-RP content vastly outweighed RP postings, and among the RP postings they weren't even 18+, but we can just let people be upset over nothing.

I see this comment a lot and I'm not sure if the commenters are genuinely not understanding the complaint being made or if they're being deliberately obtuse to strawman the point.

As I assume most people complaining about this would agree, I do not care at all what people do in private. I think the make believe clubs are cringeworthy and ERP is pathetic, but I can just choose not to visit those places. Normally that would be that, to each their own. The problem is that the people running those venues shove it in everyone else's face as hard as they possibly can. The main two things pissing everyone else off are:

    1. Shout chat is absolutely flooded with nonstop club ad spam, most using multiple separate shouts for one ad and repeating them frequently. You can't just blacklist them because they're all hired help that get rotated out constantly. It doesn't just happen in cities either, I've seen these ads pop up out in the middle of nowhere. "Just turn off shout chat" is a ridiculous solution. Why should I have to restrict myself from a useful game feature because other people are abusing it?

    2. The "Other" tab is nigh unusable for anything that isn't a club because every venue insists on posting 5+ ads. I once saw TEN ADS for the same venue. It completely drowns out everything else which is why the formerly numerous fun and original actual roleplaying venues have almost all died out or moved to discords.

Both of these issues could be solved easily. Limit your shout ads to one short and sweet message sent once every hour or two and limit the PF ads to one listing per club. Do that and nobody would have a problem.

Again if someone wants to spend their evenings beating off to catgirls, more power to you, I do not care. Just stop making it everyone else's problem.

None of what you said above describes what I witness in XIV, and I play quite a bit.

Where's the Twitch stream? The Mare syncshell? The horrendous 10' 300-lbs (all chest) modbeasts playing as a brand new race and with a full-body tattoo? The club's Discord voice chat where everyone's playing other games, such as Star Wars Galaxy, as opposed to FFXIV? I suppose installing an entire framework for add-ons, sex mods, IoT integration (don't ask), and playing your obligatory Other Game while not even touching FFXIV are quintessential aspects of Final Fantasy XIV?

Oh wait, those are "optional", right? We don't need those. So how do you enjoy standing in a quiet room with everyone wearing the exact same Level 1 outfit and doing the exact same /beesknees dance--while never saying a word for hours? You like the feeling of total silence? Little red AFK chairs too? How is that comparable to a "social" MMO at all?

And if you don't know what I'm referring to, then you have no authority on the subject matter. This isn't about what you think it is.

And yet none of these "issues" have any impact on you whatsoever.

    Crazy isnt it ?

Turn shouts off, it's that simple. If they could only advertise only one time per hour, i'd be useless to even advertise because you wouldnt have much advertising power, and on a very tiny amount of people.

Yes, turning shouts off IS a solution, and it has no big impact at all, it literally doesnt matter.

You mean they went where they were literally told to advertise in ? So what's the problem ? That's where they should be, in the other category, if they are under dungeon or raids etc, report them.

How to completely dismiss a problem by pretending leaving people alone makes it not a problem without solving or addressing literally anything. Solution fixed guys! JUST DONT CARE! -Stormpeak's advice on everything.

So what's your solution then ? We ban all the venues and drive these people away, and then what ? Then the game only has the raiders/crafters left that eventually end up quitting or taking break for multiple months since there's barely any content in the game ? And then what ?
