The next level in community made content

When i saw this promotion, i immediately tought to myself how the whole FF franchise would be a great fit for something like this. I instantly substituted, in my head the TF2 content from the promo video with some FFXIV images of stuff i would do with this kind of tool. FFXIV with its beautiful graphics and character models could shine under a different, community based light. Any franchise could be revived through community content. Instead of making artwork contests, why not cutscene contests ? Emote creation contest in which the first place prize would be inclusion into the game

Question to SE: Have you ever considered releasing custom content creation tools to the community ? Maybe tap into the crowd sourcing power ?

Question to the forum community: What would you do with a FFXIV custom content creation kit ?


I'm just pitching that idea out there. I invite you to remain within the conceptual realm and talk about what could be done rather than drowning in "it's impossible" or "they'll never do it"

Idk, seems too limited imo, because its an online game. Community driven content thrives best when there are very few rules: aka single player games. When all it comes down to is getting a new model in the game, or a new monster design, people would tire of that real fast. I think an online game has too many rules in place to really make community driven content healthy and successful

The thought of moddable dungeons, pvp arenas, etc make me cry tears of joy =O

They did say that when 2.0 comes out that the players will be able to make custom UI and even that the ones that are most popular player made ones would be implemented into the game. Guess it's a start?

Are people even reading the OP?

The OP isnt asking for Multiplayer game modes, not asking for modifications to the files.

They're asking for a film editor for the online world.

Yes you can dat mod, but its not the same, you cant empty Uldah, you cant modify individual file animations and its very difficult and tedious to get correct dat modding work with the correct setup and material, you also have non to very limited camera control and cannot edit lighting.

Read the OP before posting haha. This would be ace, but bare in mind they've been working on it 7 years and its in release beta now, so if SE were to say yes, it would not be for many years and be a lot of work.

As for Lux_Rayna i dont know what you mean by only works in Single Player, do you not watch Machinima? Its a freaking huge community and pretty much all with Multiplayer games, mainly FPS. SP is limited because of lack of NPC control, multiplayer its a blank slate with all NPCs undercontrol.

One of the main problems I think leves had was that there were a very limited number so people ended up repeating the same ones again and again. This never seems to have been resolved, just put aside since most people have job at 50 now.

I think there's a few ways they could be changed.

Ingame, I think it would be good if people could create local leves for crafters. Supplying the materials to the adventurers guild and offering a reward (with the guild taking a cut) in order for a crafter to create the item(s) you need.

Secondly, I think it would be good if people looking for assistance with quests could post them as leves in the adventurer's guild, again with a reward and a cut to the guild. I think it would be preferable to spamming shouts in Ul'dah.

Finally, If come tool could be released to the community to allow then to create and submit new leves we could have a much better choice of what to play. If would be nice if SE made more too but they don't seem to be taking that approach. Having the option of dozens or even 100+ leves to be able to choose from would make doing them more fun than repeating the same half a dozen over and over.
