Add a global chat to the game

I'm all for more social features, but the amount of advertisement spam in the global chat would be insane. It'd be mostly venue spam, and otherwise dead, assuming they don't allow free trials to use it(because if they do it'll be RMT spam all the time). I don't think there's any criteria you could make that RMT bots couldn't handle.

I'm all for more communication channels, but this seems poorly thought-out, with the OP coming up with vague ideas of how to prevent abuse that have no depth.

I've never really had a problem with the equivalent of global chat channels in other MMO's - namely WoW, Lost Ark and ESO. If it's optional, only the people interested in using it would be using anyway. Though I do agree that the game is in dire need of more social features for those of us who aren't interested in raiding or venues. Exploratory content fulfilled that niche for a while as did Ishgard's reconstruction.

I like the idea of Global Chat. I don't like the idea of it being immediately overtaken by venue shouts, which is inevitable, so I guess ultimately I would turn it off because I can only blacklist so many of these people.

I really don't care that DJ Quadongle is mixing for you tonight guys, I never will. There is literally nothing you can say to make me interested in attending your event. I really want to be able to just automatically filter out this junk.

Can I get a buddy list chat. That used to be a very normal thing in MMOs, idk why it stopped. There's probably a very good logical technical reason, but that has nothing to do with me actually as I never come here to think-give me a buddy list chat, please and thank you.

As much as this might sound good on paper, in practice it will most likely just turn into another place to spam venue advertisements since our RP community doesn't know how to restrain themselves. If some people are into that then be my guest, just make it off by default and allow people who want to use it the option to join.

years ago we used to have a global channel, /3 world chat but yeah it was mostly RMT bots spamming that channel so it got removed from the game back then... i'm fine without it though, me personally i can get around fine with linkshells and fc chat

Absolutely not. The shout venus spam in the main cities is enough. I don't want to take that crap around with me like luggage.

do it and also add a buddy chat channel that broadcasts all your messages to everyone on your friends list so you can ask all 150 people on your buddy list for expert roulette at the same time and then just grab the first 4 dudes who respond. make it crossworld and cross dc.
the more communication channels this game has, the better. god knows the content's not pulling its weight right now. let people communicate easily.
if you dont like it you can turn it off. idk why this is even getting pushback. this game's got cross-dc play but extremely limited communication methods between DCs. we should have cross-dc linkshells and even FCs that at least are dc-wide at this point. I could go on but yeah. the game's comm methods are not keeping pace with the rest of the game and it blows. sometimes i send someone a /tell and it won't even let me do that because they're on a different world, like are you kidding me.
