Could be a red herring, and everyone fell for it, even though the green mage is a really cool idea. Colored mages are fun in the series, and that is the least developed one. Though knowing how the fanbase is, there is no not getting peoples hopes up if it turns out to be a red herring.
Or perhaps it's Square Enix's way of saying something big will be released on next Patrick's day. You never know, citizen.
