They could have had us exploring realms of the various gods, maybe you have something like the Twelve but also their opposites, or maybe a war in the heavens and they are fighting amongst themselves? I dunno. I just felt like, when it ended, it was such a waste. You find out that the gods are real, but there doesn't feel like any weight to it. I was really REALLY disappointed by the pointless bit where the gods want to speak to you and it's just a couple lines. No chance to actually talk to them.
