I felt most sad when Deryk almost abandoned the baby opo. Was kinda hoping I'd get more outta meeting the being on my character page for the past decade, but whatever. They're probably tired of being alive, I can empathize with that enough to buy the story. I just wish they all fought better than a buncha robots and weird void thingies. Halone and Rhalgr should be especially ashamed of themselves.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Loved the raid series and getting to see the Divines - I love Greek mythology and pantheons that seem inspired by it.

Roaming around with Menphina (my patron) in Part 2 was quite a joy, though in my head she was more an Aphrodite than she turned out here.

Felt suitably saddened by their departure and sacrifice in the end - and my character would be a bit let down that they were part Ancient but then melded by faith. Presently uncertain if we should ever have been given that much insight into them and agreed that revealing this to most people would gut faith.

So...maybe I would have preferred not knowing everything if that's what they were, but I can accept it.

As an aside, loving the paintings we can buy for our homes. I have Nophica's given I live in Gridania and waiting on Menphina's and Oschon's to complete the set my WoL felt closest to.

It actively detracts from the world-building to have the Eorzean pantheon just be yet another work of Hydaelyn who now don't even exist in any capacity.

I have to agree here. I feel like it's a bit tired now that everything has to tie back to the ancients in some way or another. It would have been far more interesting if the 12 were a pure form of summoning magic, the prayers of countless people over thousands of years gave them life, but because they didn't follow the summoning rituals of the Ascians, they didn't attempt to temper the people living on Hydaelyn.

That would have at least given more depth to how the world works as opposed to they were just another convocation of 12.

I think they should have made Myths of the Realm as an expansion. They could have had us exploring realms of the various gods, maybe you have something like the Twelve but also their opposites, or maybe a war in the heavens and they are fighting amongst themselves? I dunno. I just felt like, when it ended, it was such a waste. You find out that the gods are real, but there doesn't feel like any weight to it. I was really REALLY disappointed by the pointless bit where the gods want to speak to you and it's just a couple lines. No chance to actually talk to them.

I find it very difficult to accept the fact, that the twelve once worked together or guided the Ancient. Like, we never saw them together, yet they seem to be pretty close? It's hilarious to me, honestly. All those connections make 0 sense to me, especially when the Ancient storyline got finished months ago.

Myths of the Realm is the ultimate proof CBU3 doesn't do jack to archive and share past lore and plotlines proper to the new writers.
Granted Endwalker already showed signs of that in 6.0, but MotR was very blatant about it.

So if future expansions have connections to anything presented so far, expect inconsistencies and contradictions to only get worse.

And I'll say more. Ever since 6.1 it became very clear that as bad as 1.0 was as a video game, the only reason FFXIV had a good setting in its first 8 years was because it was built on the foundations and ruins of this game's lore that was never CBU3's to begin with. The moment they had to create their own stories from scratch (or almost from scratch in case of this void mini saga) they show pure bog-standard shounen anime mediocrity coated in lazy fanservice.


Look, I'm not saying they couldn't come up with a good self contained story if they tried. But that's the problem. They really want to commit to doing multi-expansion 'sagas' but they really shouldn't be doing that with that "lol you guys really care about the story huh???" attitude they have. Best thing for them would be to keep stories self contained from here on. Sure the stories would probably be bland, void of grey area or characters suffering actual lasting consequences, but at least it wouldn't be a whole snowball.

I think I misspoke in this since I kinda emotionally wrote it late last night after I finished, because I remember the whole thing Papalymo, but what Deryk said literally insinuates that they could have done something.......but they were busy.........
