Cross-Region Data Center Travel

Has there been any update on this? They have said the system is fully capable of doing it if they flip the switch to allow it but I haven't heard anything regarding progress toward this.

Has anything come out or hinted at? It would be nice to be able to visit other regions to take advantage of other peak times and lower pings for those of us on US but live in EU.

Also yeah, JP doesn't want any NA drama on their servers and the day SE goes against their JP playerbase is the day the world ends.

All of the data centers within a region are in the same physical location. Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis are all within a few thousand feet of each other. That's the primary physical limitation.

The primary limitation beyond that is Japanese players don't want to play with people who don't speak Japanese, and some of them don't want to play with non Japanese people regardless of whether or not there's a language barrier. Picture the American redneck screaming "speak English" and multiply that by ten.

They already said they have this implemented, just not active due to "concerns". Basically whatever JP says, it's gonna be a hard no from SE because they don't care about their western playerbase, who is actually the majority.

They are working on some alternative ideas for doing it, so my guess would be something like a cross-region queue system or PF but without the visiting part. If there was cross-region PF it would let you choose to restrict to the region most likely, like it allows you to restrict it to worlds currently.

At least NA and EU can communicate with each others. Not to mention OCE servers would very much benefit from this.

My dude, you do realize NA and EU servers are mirrors, right? I've played on both sides of the pond, and the only difference I've noticed between the two is the lack of random people shouting in French. The EU even has its own version of Balmung to serve as a prison for the degenerates, although it does seem like they escape more often.
