Finished the MSQ, general no-spoilers feelings: Elevated from 'pretty alright' to 'really good' by one HELL of a trial. I left pretty happy with it, which I wouldn't have if they didn't nail that one fight.
Overall it kinda pitched straight down the middle; nothing super surprising, and I feel like the storyline as a whole maybe could've used an extra twist or two either here or in 6.3, but nothing it did was something it did wrong.
Copious amounts of nods to both the void quests and Eden (and like I suspected, it looks like the mention of the Warring Triad was to guide us down the road to the Void Quests without saying much. If people haven't checked, both Cylva and Unukalhai's dialog has updated after 6.5's MSQ; it's not really new information so much as corroborating accounts on what Golbez was talking about, but that's got its value.
Basically the entire questline runs entirely how we expected up until the final boss of the Lunar Subterrane; I did pick out that part of the dungeon was going to go into Baron (and that it was Baron), but the only real surprising thing in it was Durante as the final fight. And unfortunately he was kinda the weakest part of it; he's not that interesting and kinda doesn't fit the heavily classical-fantasy vibe of the rest of the dungeon.
Fortunately then Zeromus happens, and Zeromus is the best fight we've had in a LONG time; story and gameplay are often different silos, but I think that strong gameplay and difficulty works to sell the gravitas of the story and characters involved, and GOD DAMN does Zeromus' fight sell everything that goes on! It's the first time that I've been healing as an AST and wanted to draw Lady of Crowns. My only complaint in my notes was going to be 'not as gross as the SNES design'... but, well, then she stabbed us with her ribcage, so no, she wins that one.
Zero not keeping around with us is a bit disappointing (especially because if she did join as a PLD, she'd allow us to have an all-female Trust party), but honestly, we've got a big cast; we can do well with characters taking some time off. And in all honesty, Zero's a character that would've felt a bit out-of-place away from Void-centric storylines.
Confirmation of who that letter in the BAnnex was to and from is good, although that clover earring's an enigma; from what I'm aware that's not a symbol that nods towards any known in-universe figures, or historical jobs (unless you wanted to take a REAL long bow towards Green Mage or Geomancer). It's hard to read much into the person Erenville returned with, save that I think we're looking at a hyur, elezen or viera; we can easily rule out lalafel, I don't think the legs are broad enough to be a roe or hrothgar, and I think that angle would've shown a tail if it were miqo or au ra.
Oh yeah, and of course: GAIA! See, we didn't have to make Eden compulsory to have her around and a fun scene contributor!
EDIT: Also, I owe Ardbert an apology: he's no longer the biggest screwup in all of FFXIV, because oh my god Golbez, I don't think there's a single way you could've screwed the world around you up any worse than you already did, you score a straight 0%, that is impressive.
...also, wow, Igeyorhm is pronounced like that?
It's too late here for me to do the new alliance raid, but I have done Margrat's opener. There's not a whole lot to say about it beyond that I love Margrat and this is the best custom delivery NPC.
