Hahahahaha. That was funny. But does not FFXIV use old outdated hardware from late 2000s? no? Someone told about it during EU datacenter split in half, coz old Pentium 4 was not able to handle it, and now they want to move into cloud, coz old hardware is way to expensive in order of electricity bills.
Consider, though, that you shouldn't have use the Pentium 4 as being part of the server hardware, since Intel stopped selling the chip 3 years before A Realm Reborn went live.
You must be new. Back in the LK days of WOW, 24 hours was considered LIGHT.
I guess, they update also the OS on their servers. And if you run Windows, Windows-Update can take a very long time.
Cheers
I've played other games with very long maintenance times and honestly, I prefer if they take longer but make sure everything works. I remember RIFT updating within a few hours, going back on and having to go down again to hotfix gamebreaking bugs.
