It's unfortunate that the housing system is communicated so poorly to players when they're first learning about it. I've seen so many people thinking that if they just get enough money to buy a house, they can get one. Then they finally get the money and think they're at the finish line, only to slam face-first into the reality that they haven't even started the race yet. Definitely a bummer.

I'm pretty tired of people suggesting this. For starters, you're not guaranteed a house that way, except maybe a small. And I put in the time to have enough gil to buy any size house I want. Why should I be expected to leave my FC and friends to get it?

My comment was addressed to someone who has been unable to get any house because they've chosen to have their character on the most congested world in the game. You at least have a house where they can't get one.

Moving to a different data center isn't leaving anyone. It takes all of one minute to data center travel 95% of the time. While true you wouldn't be able to stay in the FC, that shouldn't stop you from being able to do things with your FC if they're a decent group of people. If that one minute to data center travel causes that FC and those friends to cut you off, then I'd say you're better off without that FC and those people you thought were friends never were.

I agree it shouldn't come to transferring a character for any player to get a house. I've been pushing for SE to change the housing system as much as the next player. Any MMORPG is going to have a hard time meeting my gold standard for what a housing system should be (RIFT's Dimensions).

But until SE makes a change so all this drama over the bad system can be left in the past, we have to make due with what the system is. For those who do not currently have a house, there are available plots out there if they are willing to be on the worlds with them.

I mentioned several times in the past that I'd like to see SE update the "Where the Heart Is..." quests to represent the system as it currently exists and not what it was back in 2.4.

And I have no respect for those who keep saying "move to Dynamis and get a guaranteed medium or large house" when they know it's not true. And wait until you try to DC travel and it glitches on you and you get locked out of the game for an entire day. This has happened to me twice already and SE's response is it's a known issue and the only fix is to wait it out when it happens.

Yet if you had transferred to Dynamis (other than Seraph) when the data center first opened last year, you were effectively guaranteed a medium or large with no competition. My alt got a large with no competitors. Two other players in my FC got mediums - no competitors.

Is there competition now? Yes, because it's 10 months later and those that could only afford a small or medium when they first transferred are now able to afford mediums and larges.

Will there be competition when SE finally chooses to open the last 6 wards for purchase? It's hard to say, to be honest. That's going to be an additional 180 larges and 420 mediums per world becoming available all at the same time. Right now there's not very much competition for them. Marilith had 1 large available in this current lottery period that only had 35 bidders.

I'm not concerned with what could have happened a year ago. The absolute fact right now is that winning a medium or large on Dynamis is NOT a guarantee, and people need to quit saying it is.

That's not my problem at all unless I'm able to go back in time. I've said it before but I'll say it again since it seems to be out of your grasp. Quit saying people are guaranteed a medium or large house by transferring to Dynamis when it is absolutely, 100% false.

All that's been said is that players are able to get a house if they transfer or make a new character on Dynamis. No one has made any promises about the size or location.

It's an option for someone who wants a house but has been unable to get one. For those that have a house and aren't satisfied with it, that's their problem they'll have to learn to deal with.

I own houses to use them: they're my base between activities to check my retainers, craft, use the fc chest, vendors and the nearby MB. When I DC travel, none of that is accessible.

That wasn't me trying to say it's easy to get a large right now. It was a comparison to the number of larges that will eventually become available when SE chooses to open the last 6 wards that are still locked on the new worlds added last year. If there are only about 35-40 players actively pursuing larges on Marilith, that may mean over 100 larges with no competition of any sort when those wards finally open (depending on how long the wait is). That's going to be repeated on Maduin and Halicarnassus (Seraph will probably have competition for the larges that would open there).
