I think we all know the real reason why Asmongold stopped playing FF14.
Isn't it interesting how even Asmongold had to quit? Despite this being the "best community"?

No. Not even remotely interesting.
And "had to quit"?. I doubt he "had" to quit.

Asmongold imo operates on undisclosed paid influencer deals but pretends he doesn't because it is a schtick for his dumb audience.
To expound, I'm saying that if he isn't getting paid he likely isn't playing that game. If he likes the game and it has sufficient audience reception then he will keep playing after whatever influencer deal he has expires. So in the case of XIV either he doesn't like the game or his audience is a problem (I'm guessing the latter).

Many people who play this game know this isn't the case. There's another thread up on the r/ffxivdiscussion subreddit that raises this issue. Link for those who are curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscus...xicaggressive/
As for Asmongold's case, I'll copy and paste this quote here:
Ok, I'll bite and recount the events of the asmongold subreddit FFXIV fan banwave of summer 2022. He made it into about a third of the way through Stormblood before he finally called it quits. It just seems that if Asmon didn't play MSQ the way people wanted to, FFXIV fans would become mad at him. They were expecting Asmon to binge the whole MSQ which wasn't something he planned on doing. He preferred to play a little bit of MSQ one day and maybe play something else that same day, like Lost Ark or Wow. But the angry twitch messages and reddit posts kept rolling in about how Asmon was ruining the MSQ by taking it at a leisurely pace, and they made strange accusations about him not actually enjoying the game and that he was baiting the FFXIV community for views. Like the guy has made an entire youtube review raving about how FFXIV was a great game and how he was enjoying it. He's spent countless hours grinding lower level raids for glamour gearsets and even completed old raid content like the Coils of Bahamut, synced. But no, the FFXIV viewers instead want to gaslight him by saying this was all a set up by him to farm views, and that he doesn't actually enjoy the game... all because he won't binge MSQ.
Eventually Asmon lost his shit and started banning all the users that were making such posts and refused to stream the game. I don't blame the guy for doing so because it was just so bizarre. He made the comparison that these types of FFXIV viewers were similar to an overly attached girlfriend/boyfriend in constant need of attention and validation, and if they didn't get that validation and assurance then they would flip out. And you know what? I don't entirely disagree with his analogy.
Hopefully one day Asmon comes back to FFXIV. Overall, it's a very decent game with plenty of things left for him to do, but he's gotta learn to avoid and shrug off all the obsessive crazies in this community.
Tons of streamers were playing all around the time Asmon did. It was a huge PR blitz for EW. And it worked BTW-- but all those streamers went right back to Dragonflight and Diablo IV at the same times. They're just promo hoppers.
I think Asmon liked the game but his audience didn't and trolled him into stopping. Plus I think other lucrative deals were upcoming so he could afford to drop it. So it's both.
And yes he said the community is crazy blah blah blah...again don't be naive. Yes, the trolling is a factor but ultimately money talks.

he stopped playing because no matter what else he was doing people bugged him to continue playing xiv
the community lives to harass streamers into playing the msq so they can relive vicariously since you will never experience the same emotions of going thru it the first time again and once the streamer has finished the msq they toss em in the trash and move onto the next streamer playing through the msq
All I can say is ... Parasocial is weird, and it get weirder.he stopped playing because no matter what else he was doing people bugged him to continue playing xiv
