This is nothing. You should have played WoW from Wrath to Legion. Now those were long spans between patches.

If there's nothing holding your interest in this game until Dawntrail comes out, there are plenty of other games to play. Give some of them a try. You have YoshiP's blessing.

As someone who was still playing during the SoO drought... things here are a breeze.

You and me have been forged in the flames of boredom hell and this "drought" ain't nothing.

Yeah I only actively played WoW from launch to MoP but I know it definitely colored my tolerance toward patch timelines. We were waiting forever with just faction grinding to keep us busy if we could tolerate it and then nothing once we had finished that. WoW release schedules were their own meme.

To the OP, they already said expansion launch would be in the summer. And since it sounds like they're back on the normal schedule, it most likely be mid to late June for early access and then actual launch in early July. 6.55 will be late January they just said in the LL, so about 5 months give or take.

Make that 3 of us I played from late vanilla through mid BfA. I am well tempered to long waits.

I'm hoarding some of the hard-to-get dungeon hats for my Viera, but artifacts would be a waste of space.

Artifact gear (except maybe upgraded Anemos gear) is the least worthwhile thing to be hoarding. You can repurchase it all easily, or even have it handed to you for free in the case of the 80 and 90 sets.

Wrath of the Lich King: 13 November 2008

    Legion: 29 August 2016

Those are the release dates for the launch of both expansions, one of which predates FFXIV's existence altogether and the other is roughly seven years ago. We're talking about FFXIV in the present day and recent years, with both Shadowbringers and Endwalker leading to many veteran players who are caught up on the MSQ's and side content finding themselves with very little to do.

Many posters with concerns relating to the current game already are taking breaks and playing other games. All of this has been explained many times already by the posters such statements are aimed at, though.

What makes you think the logistics problems that companies face in development have changed in any significant ways since then considering human beings are involved in just about every step of the development process?

Sometimes crap happens. One team getting delayed in progress due to sickness in some of the team members can mean other teams who are dependent on the first team's work fall behind. Severe weather can cause delays due to traffic problems, intermittent power outages, etc.

Unlike American companies that frequently force their employees to priortize work over their families or own health, it doesn't sound like YoshiP is doing that to his team. We're hitting a major holiday period right about the time that 6.55 would normally be coming out. Instead of pushing them to hit a tight deadline before the holidays start, he's giving them a bit of extra time so they can enjoy their holidays.

    Good for him.

I've come to the conclusion that the endless debates that cause conflict within MMORPG player communities really have little to do with casual versus hardcore.

The real conflict is between high maintenance players that are very demanding and low maintenance players that are relaxed and willing to compromise as long as they're still having a good time. That's not to say that either one is a bad thing (as long as neither takes things to extremes) but the two sides will have a very hard time seeing eye to eye.

I think the goal is to get the game back on the late June/early July expansion release schedule.

There's a lot more than just Savage raiding in the game.

If all you're going to focus on is Savage, then you're bound to end up running out of things to do quickly. Or are you trying to convince us that the last 4 bosses of Eden kept you busy every week from December 7, 2020 to December 2, 2021?

Is the wait going to be 1-2 months longer this time? It looks that way.

Is complaining about waiting longer going to change anything? No, it's not.

One must wonder what fate will befall this game during the interim. If everyone leaves to play other games, will there be anyone left in this game to play with? It's doubtful. But it is what it is. In either case, I'm glad we've been able to establish that a 7-9 month wait time of 0 content in a subscription game is fine because somebody somewhere has had it worse in another game entirely.
There could be a few things affecting the final release date.

Xbox beta. Increased server congestion due to an influx of Xbox players (if they come) that they need to have a working solution ready to address. The upcoming cloud server testing to see if it would work as a solution. Any number of other things that could be happening behind the scenes at SE that we don't know about but he does thanks to his position on the Board of Directors that they won't let him vacate.

Hence October. September is the end of Summer, and they'll end up delaying for a month to "polish the MSQ" or some such nonsense.
What are you going to do about it if that happens? Continue to pay SE your subscription fees so you can keep making pointless posts in the forums about the delays? They won't speed anything up. The game will be ready when it's ready.

I love the argument of "X game did it worse" as if that makes it any better, always funny

    Also this
If OP's prediction is true, then it arguably didn't do it worse. Siege of Orgrimmar was a full blown patch with a new raid with 10+ bosses and a whole new difficult. Certainly more content than 6.55. So instead of waiting 10 months, WoW waited for 13 months but got a real patch that released everything at once.

It gets worse comparing to previous expansions, Fall of the Lich King lasted a full year, but also a full blown new raid with new dungeons, too. And they released Ruby Sanctum in between, and the Duty Finder was born there iirc.

Hour of Twilight lasted roughly 10 months, with a 8 boss raid and 3 dungeons.

I haven't followed WoW for a long time, but after seeing these posts, they probably should take a page out of FFXIV's modus operandi and release things little by little instead of releasing everything at once.
