"young players are not going to play ff14" which is the title and talking about younger players joining the game has nothing weird to it, you're making it weird.

my counter argument for this whole thing is. Why does this need to be a conversation? For us the players who play this video game?

I dont understand why people put so much attention and care about what other people think.

Seriously, nobody cares if young people or old people or mom and pop play this game. This shouldnt be a focus of concern. If anything this is stuff managers or anyone in the actual development team would come up. Our concern should be less about the target audience and more about providing feedback about the actual game for it to be good.

Because I personally don't want to be rping with minors? I don't want to talk about games irl with minors either for example. Bars don't allow minors yet they aren't for sexual activities. Is it a crime to want an adult only space now? I'd think it'd be more of an issue if someone said in pf "Minors allowed". That's far more sus to me than "18+" no matter if it's nsfw or not.

I'm also subbed to r/childfree. Sometimes adults just don't want kids to be around. Nothing sexual or anything could be going on but I still don't want children around.

It's not a crime to want an adult only space but this entire game's community in every single way has basically become "Adult Swim". Which is a game not designed for that but the community has sure turned it into one. And not just for RP, but RP has created that mentality for all spaces. Like I said in my first post, I feel bad for any teen genuinely trying to enjoy this game as a video game because they probably just won't be accepted into any space because "Adult only spaces" are everywhere. (and the worst part about that is nobody actually validates ages to begin with, they just throw the tag up to cover their bases). I don't really care what people want to do, I just wanted to make a point and create an awareness that younger players literally have nowhere to belong in this game. There is no space or corner for them to go because everything is adults only. And that's why this game isn't going to attract a young audience like Yoshi P wants. Taking your bar analogy, it's like going to a city where the only activities are only bars. No parks, playgrounds, amusement parks, arcades, ect.

They're not idiots, they have their own friends to play and hang around with and just like with everyone of us, they're perfectly capable of minding their own business whether it be doing the story, or leveling or raiding. This is how each and everyone of us probably got into MMOs; we didnt start immediately wanting to be alone or hang around with strangers, we mostly played with like minded friends or like I said, minded our own business and had our fun until we somehow found people we could click with.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean it's a BS take. You are free to disagree, but I think I made a very considerable point. Also this isn't an RP only specific issue. The 18+ embodies all aspects of the game. General purpose FCs, Statics, Farms, ect. As mentioned earlier, it doesn't matter the activity, people do not want to hangout with younger folks.

When I say RP created that mentality, I made that baseless claim on the opinion that people would care less about the 18+ tag if RP did not exist in any manner. I can go online in any other game like Fortnite, and Call of Duty, even GTA, and encounter kids on there and people don't make it weird. Most people ignore them and just focus on the game. It's only weird when the occasional troll comes in with the immature "your mom" type jokes.

I don't think RP has created that mentality. I have no idea if accurate but, at a guess, I would safely say the average age of player has gone up as we are 10 years into FFXIV. Anyone who started in 2.0 in their 20s and stayed the course, is now in their 30s. Even if you spent just 5 years playing, mid-20s now. So if Yoshi, Square, whoever say they want to attract younger people to the game (and I get the official rating is 13+, but still....), the player base and player environment, on the whole, is at a more mature place, age wise.

The take I'm referring to is the one about the younger players having nowhere to belong in this game. Like I said, we're both forgetting how we first got into MMOs during our youth and underestimating them into thinking that they're all just sad and alone in some corner somewhere. People create their own spaces and have their own circle of friends. Heck the most popular thing right now is that many people keep recommending their friends to try FFXIV for the first time so that already alleviates the issue that you presented.

I just dont believe in the scenario people are trying to make here. Its creating an issue in a space that most likely doesnt have one.

As with many other online spaces, grooming is a problem here too. If you meet young people in game, please set a good example and look out for them.

This may be harsh but I don't to much care about minors not having much space in this game. Imo this game and it's systems aren't for them. They can go rp in Fortnite if they want that (and that's not a shot at FN either. RP there is quite fun in the modes folks create akin to the GTA stuff). People do put spaces up and don't specify age so teens can in fact interact. But just like the real world there's certain times/groups minors just can't associate with. Just how it is really.
