They've always only ever cared about the JP feedback, never the western feedback. The only time they'll listen to us is when the ship is sinking. With that said. The recent interviews are absolutely terrible news, and anyone expecting change from the EW model in Dawntrail will be extremely disappointed, myself included. EW style of "once and done" content is looking like it's going to be the norm. The game had a good run, but this is where I check out.

Not like I want it to happen to the game...but when will people finally learn that Metrics matter more then blasting Forums? Especially on a Forum where people have said many, Many, MANY times, that they dont listen. Yet continue to complain like anything will change? And Keep feeding the game money.
Im still gonna be here to SEE for myself if there will be improvements in Dawntrail. If not, and if the game starts to become Unfun even for a Casual like me, then Im out.
I have no sunken Cost, Im not chained to the game. If it cant prove, Im just out.
Maybe by people leaving, they can wake up, and actually reach out for answers instead of that Questionnaire. .
I've said this for months and it's always met with pushback. "Vote with your wallet" isn't a liked mantra around here for some odd reason. I pay my sub because I enjoy playing the game (as a vet mind you) with my fc and friends. If this wasn't the case I wouldn't be paying. It's simple really...or rather you'd think it was. Folks need their place to vent ig and they're willing to pay 15$ a month to have it.

Ive had this conversation with people IRL who love to say "It doesnt work"
True....because not everybody is doing it. Which then means; According to the metrics, there are people who either dont care, or people that like / Enjoy it. So they will continue to pay, play & Support. It wont work...until a Large enough Metric joins in and unsubscribes AND leave feedback.
Its probably been established for many years, the Metrics Point UP. If you want them to do down and give them a message....Vote - With - Your - Wallet.
It REALLY IS that simple, but people will just create excuses not to do it. And will continue to pay, keeping that Metric up.

Before we get any idiots. The game isn't perfect, always make your voice heard.
But we should stop and think...if moaning, complaining, Criticisms and getting into fights and trolling eachother are not leading to changes you want.
Then its time to change Tactics on how you get the message across. A good way?
    The Wallet.
Is this not what leads to change in most cases?

    Hmm let's see...

Free Company Housing was released in Patch 2.1 - Release Date 17 Dec 2013
Personal Housing was introduced in Patch 2.38 - Release Date 8 Jul 2014
    (source : https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Player_Housing)

As of today, we still have an auto demolition system that forces people to stay subscribed in order to not lose their houses, because of a so called housing crisis that in reality is created by SE themselves to boost their subscribers numbers for the shareholders.

How did "being nice" work in regards to that ? As much as I'd hate it personally, where is the instanced housing ? Where are the new wards aside from W25 to 30, why are there still multiple hundreds of people bidding on a single large on NA ?

Surely being nice and giving feedback would work right ?

And yet here we are, nothing is fixed.

    By your opinion

Then its time to change Tactics on how you get the message across. A good way?
    The Wallet.
Player A who started in 2013-2014 disagrees with the housing system being so restrictive and limited, should they have unsubscribed back then and stopped playing all together ? What would that have done now 10 years later ? The problem is still there.

We will never know...because we never committed to it as a collective.
We need MORE people doing it and not just a handful of people on the forums, we need more people posibly "voting with their wallets" and possibly leaving, because of housing.

Also there are people like myself who dont care about housing / have given up on housing. So, we dont really contribute to this issue and don't help or harm it.

Never gonna happen, and devs know it. Thats why EA still exists. And to some degree even activision exists.

People wont leave for the 20% they dislike if the 80% is still fun for them. And the 5% that leaves might cost less than actualy fixing the things the 5% wanted (as those changes can get others to leave). It costs a lot to invest in good changes, and in many cases you wont be sure if it gives back the investment. The main reason is that other games are often not giving a better experience, some things might be better, but usualy at a cost of other things. For example wow has an absolutely horrible community, yet a better raiding experience for hardcore players. There is no point for them to teach the community to be better (they just implement a very harsh and poor automated report system so nobody even wants to discuss anything anymore, causing players to become eager to leave upon the first sign of potential failure), as activision only cares about the hardcore players as thats a steady income that is far less likely to be lost as long as they cater to them.

It needs a diffirent dev to make a competing game. And even here, we can see failures being very common (overwatch was supposed to be the tf2 killer, yet in 10y tf2 barely lost any players. every lost player just found a replacement). Many RTS games try to become the new cnc/red alert. And none have succeeded, Back4blood tried to be the new l4d and l4d2 still has more players than b4b. Players dont like change so the original games are generaly stable at surviving. Player counts drop very slowly

Its also why gamble/loot boxes still exist.

If you look at threads/comments made in forums/social media for pretty much any game committed to the lootbox business model you'll find countless posts bemoaning how sleazy/predatory/downright awful the boxes that the game in question uses. I don't have any figures and will admit that I don't know for certain.... but I've never read anything, anywhere, about any MMO abandoning the lootbox model due to poor sales.

I have an unfortunate habit of ranting about a game I used to play, which I stopped playing for various reasons - one of those reasons being their gamblebox obsessed business model. As I said, I stopped playing it - as did quite a few of my friends (it was one of these friends, who left before I did, who recommended FFXIV to me). In fact I daresay that said game's increasing commitment to lootboxes probably pushed a fair number of players away - players who, by their absence, not only voted with their wallets but with their time too. However, do you think this changed anything? Did the Devs of said game look at this supposed drop in spending and player numbers and reevaluate the game's business model?
Of course not (and no-one thought it would, to be fair) - they introduced a 'promo box', which essentially does the same thing as a lootbox in a very slightly different way, meaning that that game basically now has two forms of gamblebox.

Vote with your wallet works - when enough players are in agreement.

Vote with your wallet doesn't work - when you're part of a small minority and the rest of the player base doesn't feel the same way.

Think it was Theodric that shared the story about a friend who decided to vote with their wallet and left the game for several months. They came back expecting the game to be what they wanted, and were disappointed when it wasn't.

Games do not change for the sake of a single player's money. They do not change for the sake of 100 players' money. They do not change for the sake of 10,000 players' money.

But when you get 100,000 players to quit about the same time, leaving essentially the same feedback, do they pay attention?

    Yes, then they pay attention.

If you feel a certain change is needed, you need to band together with those who feel likewise and vote with your wallets at the same time. Contact your friends who agree with you. Contact your favorite content creators who agree with you. Post in reddit and on Twitter X and ask those who agree with you to join you. Give up those houses you value so dearly to show your sincerity about how you feel.

If enough do it, it will get noticed.

It worked great for WoW players the one time they actually banded together and began quitting en masse. WoW devs listened and reversed an unpopular decision a few weeks later.

It worked great for the FFXIV 1.0 players who found a bad game and quit that bad game. SE chose to start over and rebuild that bad game.

If only a few thousand join you, then perhaps it's time to decide if you can enjoy game in the direction it is going or if you are better off elsewhere. A few thousand isn't going to be enough to influence the game's direction.

Especially if they're not Japanese, which I hate saying but it's looking more and more true based on the recent interviews. NA/EU feedback is rarely making it to the dev team and so they're making decisions based on the feedback from their "home" audience. I don't begrudge them the decision - it is their game to make as they choose. But I do find it disappointing since we're all paying customers.

Which is fair enough. I wouldn't say my like/dislike split is 80/20 but there are definitely things I think are in need of serious improvement. I'm not going to quit over them though.

But some of the posters seem to be indicating that they don't like anything. They don't like the MSQ. They don't like the job design. They don't like the content SE released in EW. They don't like repeating content from other expansions.

When that like/dislike split is closer to 5/95, why are those players hanging around?
