Delete demis on both smn and sch. They are stupid and keep breaking the pet ai.
Get rid of the gem stuff. Instead at the start of combat you get x casts of each primal, with weaker ones affording you more. The true ff summoner experience. The rotation will be spam bahamut while raid buffs are up, use your judgement to gauge what you can afford to burn between buff windows based on how many spell slots you have left and how fast the boss is dying. There will also be a degree of rationing bahamut/phoenix in longer fights. Won’t that be fun™ and engaging combat™? Ruin, energy drain etc are all deleted too, after all true™ and real™ summoners don’t do anything but drop a lardarse monster on the other team and wear an oddly phallic hat.
To accommodate the inherently bad, the total potency difference between the optimal rotation and fully random button presses should be no more that 5.
To allow the summoner full enjoyment of the animations- if for some reason they play with them on - all summons will have a 10s animation and recast. There will be no oGCDs either, after all the true™ summoner is from a turn based game and oGCDs are against the spirit of things. To compensate, perhaps the summoner could have a more involved cutscene with each cast, similar to the shinryu flying about qte. Of course they’d still have to do mechanics so the arena should be visible in a corner in a non-intrusive way.
Carbuncle will have to go of course. Chocobo, shiva, ramuh, ifrit, titan, odin, leviathan, bahamut only.
In keeping with the job as it stands, all 8 slots will be unlocked at 50 and every 10 levels following the number of allowed casts will simply be adjusted.
Summoner books are all now recoloured white mage weapons, scholar can have the models if it likes.
I can see no future in which this is not the most successful™ and adored iteration. After all it is the true™ summoner fantasy™ that everyone™ has been asking for for 10 years.

I may be completely wrong, but I have a feeling the new ‘Ranged’ is going be a caster job that completely revived the old-SMN DoT playstyle. Revolving around managing and interacting with DoTs, skills that get stronger based on dots applied etc.
It’d fill both the niche old SMN left behind, and it would address the fact that currently no DoT dps job exists in game, besides maybe Bard at a stretch.
Plus, it means people who preferred the old SMN still have something to go to for the same playstyle. While I personally prefer the current iteration of Summoner as a ‘foundation’ for what the job should be, I enjoyed the old Summoner as well, and it does feel unfair that the playstyle literally doesn’t exist anymore
A dot job would be cool, I don't think it will happen with how anti dot they have been recently but I would be glad to be proven wrong ... something like a Time Mage or even a Chemist that uses poisons.

Im in love with all old smn iterations, and on paper this one wasn't bad either. But then they decided to make a physranged with less stuff and the core based on 1 button spam.I may be completely wrong, but I have a feeling the new ‘Ranged’ is going be a caster job that completely revived the old-SMN DoT playstyle. If the new caster has about the same feel as the old smn and they keep the smn as is with some more vfx, I will definitely go for the other one. Otherwise if the new caster is like all the new dps which are half jobs and the smn remains unchanged with a few more vfx I will abandon ff14 and finally go to the gym lol.

i hope not, just give old smn back to the ppl that mained it and make the new job this braindead 1 button spammer.I may be completely wrong, but I have a feeling the new ‘Ranged’ is going be a caster job that completely revived the old-SMN DoT playstyle. Overhaul is needed.
I like the use of gemstones on the bar, keep that but include extra gems/egi assault skills for the Leviathan/Ramuh and maybe Bismarck too etc.
They should make new animations so that the Ruin 1/2/3 and Outburst/Brilliance attacks have magic effects that shoot out of your characters hand and not the book, which should be held in the opposite hand and away from the visual attack effect. The book needs to become somewhat the equivalent of the red mage's crystal focus, not a weapon itself. Ruin IV's and Painflaire's effects are fine though- it's about balance and having a spectrum of effects.
The auto attack should become a ranged zoosh of some kind- and make it a strong green seeing as the game doesn't have anything like that yet.
Summoner could use a teleport of some kind too. Make it work like Ninja's Shukuchis so you can choose how far to teleport. Reaper has a floating portal, ninja goes whoosh, BLM goes blerrr, Dragoon goes Fushhh with it's backflip, so summoner could bloop down into the ground and pop up at the chosen spot or something, or something similar to a teleport effect seen in the level 87 dungeon.
Make egi use tactical again and bring back the egi assault skills (including Titans shield exactly as it was). OR perhaps overhaul all the existing egis skills and they way they work, allowing you to also set and choose which egi is for what attack/strength, so someone can use an all-ifrit setup if they wanted to- the damage would be the same (this would require removing gem/aspects from attack names but is doable).
- Physic scale with INT. It's stupid this hasn't happened yet. In a game with Vercure, Physic being as 3/4ths as effective as WHM Cure 1 isn't going to be OP.
- Carbuncle have a SCH Ruin 2 to cast for chip damage (something that doesn't have to deal with animation lock or etc but is doing SOMETHING), could be coded as a GCD or an oGCD with a 3 sec CD, either way achieves the same result.
- Phoenix to generate Leviathan, Ramuh, and Shiva Primals instead. I don't even mind them having the same as Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda, just the animations and "complete set" would be cool.
- Possibly remove the Aetherflow stuff. It's vestigial and just nonsensical at this point. Make change Fester's name to something more SMN-y and give it and Painflare 2 charges with a 30 sec CD. Have Ruin IV generate from using Demis. Done.
- Do NOT, under any circumstances, remove Resurrection.
I think that's it, honestly. SMN is almost perfect as it is right now.
EDIT: Oh, one more thing:
- Give lower levels of Astral Flow so that we have that earlier. For EW it was "the new thing", but it would honestly be cool to have that by level 50 at the latest. It feels weird to not have, for example, the Titan 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 punch. Just let us have a slightly more complete version of our rotation for leveling content. 50 at the latest since that's what a crap ton of ques land you in (MSQ, Alliance Raid, Normal Raid, 50/60/etc, and a lot of dungeons and raids and most Trials.)

You know what would be interesting? In the advent of the 3 other gemstones, at level 100, we'd get an action that unlocked a special board (out of combat) circular interface where you could change the placement of each gemstone and Demi. Unprecedent feature, and highly unlikely, but it would add some nice interactions in that you have specific setups for different fights.
More realistically, if there's one old thing that I really wish reworked is the aetherflow system of SMN, because it just feels like some awkward remnant of the old SMN that works... but feels out of place (Festering... what exactly, since there's no dots anymore?).
I think I'd go along with any idea, as long as it could be more cohese with the rest of the kit.
