Pretty much everyone agrees that we should all be playing other games, but Square Enix could do a better job of communicating this so people aren’t pressured into being “monogamers”. The unsubscribe button should be much easier to find. In fact, since not playing is a core element of the experience, maybe it should be included in the launcher or the game itself. Even just a toggle “Would you like to continuously renew your subscription?” in the launcher settings. Because otherwise, paying $13 a month to play other games is a bit expensive. I know, I know, Yoshi-P deserves the donation, etc. But outside of our community, most working people don’t like paying for nothing. (The bucket of rocks is on the side if you want to stone me)

In addition, SE should consider bundling this with Game Pass or some other SE-exclusive pass or bundle. It would be nice if we all got a discount on FF16 or the Pixel Remasters when those came out.

While we all love playing other games, it just seems a bit sinister that SE has no incentives and makes it hard to unsub when not playing is a core part of playing FFXIV.

Also, to answer OP’s question: World of Warcraft. But that’s a bad game, so you should play this one instead. (BUT YOU CAN PLAY OTHER GAMES!! JUST NOT THAT ONE!!)

I would say, if you liked Eureka and Bozja a lot, Guild Wars 2 might be worth a try. No deep dungeon though.

Fun different classes, fun combat, actual customizable class builds.
No 2min meta, its full burst from start to finish, since support keep their dps buffs running all the time. Being healer/support is actually fun, even when healing isn't needed anymore.

Glam is a bit meh, dye system is really neat though, up to 4 channel dyes for each gear piece, most are on average 2-3 though.
Once you unlock a dye color, you can use it as many times you want.
Special dyes are often multi colors with inbuilt glows too.
changing dyes is free but changing glam on item costs transmute charges(like glam prism) but not as easy to obtain.

If you once tried Guild wars 2, many years ago, and even just had a lvl 1 or something. It might be sitting on a gold trove of treasures from free birthday celebration rewards and anniversary stuff, no need to have been logged in and paying a sub to get them, since game doesn't require a sub.

All in all, there are systems in both GW2 and FF14, which the other could gain a lot from. If FF14 had GW2's class buildspecs, meta open world, action combat hybrid, and the myriad ways of getting endgame gear, it would be such a bliss to play, not to mention each zone would have their own constant Bozja like events running, but different flavors of course.

Well I'm not unhappy with XIV and still play every day. But when I'm done with what I want to do for that night, I have been playing Sea of Stars and I started up Ever Crisis out of curiosity. Heavily monetized but decent little mobile game and not too hard to progress just the story, though I have had to grind a little bit. I will have AC Mirage next month which I took a vacation to play. I may poke into BG3 since hubby has played it and given it the thumbs up. And FFXVI was enjoyable.

I don't have any other MMOs I'm that interested in at the moment. I briefly played ESO but I'm not up on the lore of that series so it was kind of boring. Also tried TOR here and there but it didn't really catch me.

To the other general topic of the thread, I play so much I've always reached a point where I'm out of things to do. Especially in Stormblood as someone who noped out of Eureka. I think while some are being derogatory with the statement, there are others where the sentiment behind "Play something else" is "Play something that makes you happy, then come back to XIV in a better mindset and maybe you will find things you enjoy here again. Don't stay here making yourself miserable."

Those who suggest, "Go play other games without delving deeper," are simply mistaken.

There are many individuals who exclusively play a single game, even though there is an immense diversity of games available, is this a problem? Absolutely not.
If you're comfortable exploring other gaming options, by all means, go ahead,
however, it's important not to project your own preferences onto others, everyone possesses a unique perspective; some share it, while others do not,
nonetheless, we have no right to dictate to someone else what they should do.

I find comments such as, "If you dislike the changes to a job, then don't play it," or "If you feel that the game lacks content, play other games," rather unhelpful.

It's crucial to recognize that each person has a distinct perception, and viewpoints can vary widely, we are dealing with a subscription-based game with paid expansions released approximately every two years.

Yes, there are alternative gaming options, but the game should ideally offer sufficient content to maintain player interest to some degree.
Most players aren't expecting the moon; they simply want to enjoy the game.

However, the casual content in Endwalker has an alarmingly short lifespan compared to previous expansions,
In a subscription-based game, which already represents a financial commitment for some players and comes with restrictions like house demolition after 45 days of inactivity, "go play other games" is not a valid argument.

    That's not the common narrative..
People aren't telling each other to quit to somehow make the game better, people are telling each other to quit so they don't have to read their complaints.

Or they complain, which is fine. But after saying their piece, they complain again, and complain, and complain, and complain, and complain some more. Over months, even years.

Having critiques isn't an issue. Just for some of us who simply leave games quietly or go do other things when we are bored/unhappy with a game, it's strange to spend so many hours on complaining.

If you ever knew someone IRL that just complains about anything and everything, for many they eventually just get tiring to be around. Just my opinion.

What games do I suggest to play? Oh I have a huge list and most of them are Golden Age JRPGs so an emulator would be needed but I think I'll just stick to recent ones ( as in this decade ).

Red Dead Redemption 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, UnEpic, Crusader Kings 3, Mortal Kombat 1, Far Cry 5. These are just a few I have played. Plenty of others.

Would I come back if DT doesn't change things up? Probably not. I know I will come back eventually when my sub expires in December because I always get the itch to come back...however the less changed...the longer it'll take for me to come back.

When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.

I feel like my gaming life got pretty simple rotating between XIV, Baldur's Gate 3, and Mortal Kombat 1. I'm going to be a happy camper for quite a long time. I dropped pretty much other game I had in progress and have no desire to finish any of them.

Those games I dropped were ESO, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Hogwart's Legacy, and a 2nd run of FF16. I gifted my friend Starfield but I don't think I'm going to get myself a copy, no interest lol.
