Reading the interview, it sounds like Criterion was never meant to be long lasting content.

They could literally just drop upgrades for tome gear that let me upgrade one piece a week and I'd be set.
They should probably remember that there are MMO players playing this MMORPG, then.
Thinking on it, yeah. Since they make it tome gear augmented post-expansion having a few glam pieces wouldn't hurt.

... then what is Criterion Savage supposed to be? And why can't we have something in between Variant and Criterion for difficulty?Criterion Dungeons is comparable to an eight-player Savage raid
Maybe I'm reading into it, but Criterion Savage looks like it was meant to be on Savage difficulty, maybe above it before Ultimate; but as a very unrewarding one and done, just for fun; not repeatable type of content. Do I like this? Absolutely not. Just based off the evidence we have, trying to understand the devs PoV, it just feels like how things have turned out. Hopefully feedback will change that.

Making Criterion nonlinear won't necessarily make it more interesting, because everyone is going to just pick the most efficient boss farm route and ignore the rest, making it effectively linear. What you could do is offer players the opportunity to titrate up the difficulty on individual fights based off of their actions.
As an example, perhaps closing the sword lid in Criterion unlocks a challenge mode on Moko that you can do for an achievement/title, and those mechanics automatically make their way into Savage Criterion. I think there needs to be a bigger jump between these two settings anyways (in addition to better cosmetic rewards).
The other alternative is to have boss-specific drops in Criterion while keeping the core Variant design, such that you navigate a route to get to the drops that you want. You'd ideally need to be able to retrace your steps though, so that you could do a full clear of all routes in a run if you wanted. If this was tied to a weekly drop system, it could work as an alternative gearing pathway. I don't think the current audience for this content needs the gear, though.

So there was another interview regarding criterion released but itnhas a lot of their info as well plus it has only been released in Japanese so far so gonna wait til it’s been more clearly translated but they did say that they are looking into the rewards.
