You're so right, this game is basically Roblox now.

I just swapped over to Summoner recently myself and I love it. If they revert it back in any capacity, I won't pick it up. I never touched SMN until recently because I hated it. To each their own on this opinion.
99.99% chance probably a Titanman alt
But it is, where did in previous FF games had you summon monsters just to throw dots?
If anything they need to bring back old Summoner and call it for what it really was, Arcanist. And use that to delink Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar at the same time even though I actually would hate that due to the removal of leveling convenience.
Oh well, if it keeps the old Summoner peeps happy.
In what previous FF game did you “summon” something only for it to appear for 3 seconds do an AOE then colour your ruin 3 casts for the next 5 minutes while also requiring no effort on your part to build towards the summonBut it is, where did in previous FF games had you summon monsters just to throw dots?

New summoner has no more basis in established FF lore than old SMN did
it had 2 DoTs. if that's enough to disrupt whatever arbitrary definition of a "real summoner" one may have then I don't know what to say.But it is, where did in previous FF games had you summon monsters just to throw dots?

it frankly does not matter because whatever defines a summoner is entirely up to whatever the game wants it to be. in the past, they wanted it to be a pet job with a summon being your companion, now they want it to be an elemental caster with brief summons. hence that is why I say that it's not any more of a "summoner" than it was before. they're both summoner.
FF3-FF9 my dude. Only reason it appears for 3 seconds is because youre forgetting this is a multiplayer MMO, where we cant have large animation delays in attacks. In what previous FF game did you “summon” something only for it to appear for 3 seconds do an AOE then colour your ruin 3 casts for the next 5 minutes while also requiring no effort on your part to build towards the summon

And again, may I ask where in traditional classic fashion did summoners just summon beasts for dots? At least the attacks feel meaty enough, its just the current rotation being brain dead simple.
im a casual too & i think the same , the way devs have dumbdown the game is awful....
but somethings telling is not aimed towards us...westerns
Traditionally the reason for having different summons was because they had different purposes. They did different types of damage or had some sort of utility purpose. Since damage type and support are mostly meaningless you will not see a great summoner unless they greatly change combat.
What you have now is probably the best you can hope for visually like a summoner: you summon big monsters. Obviously we’re not gonna have a group sit through a summon animation, and since Yoshi P hates pet classes we probably won’t see anything like X where you control the same one for an extended time.
In my experience the so called “casuals” are the ones that want more decision based (that does not mean turn based) gameplay and RPG complexity.
I don’t know which version of 6 or 7 at least you were playing but randomly dumping out consecutive summons that don’t do anything with minimal effort and no sacrifice that stick around for 3 seconds is not the type of summons I remember from 6 or 7FF3-FF9 my dude. They could have actually made you somewhat control each summon, the summons could have lasted for 20 seconds and had attacks you build towards, aspected ruin 3 plus a flashy animation is nothing like the old summons
There we go, some actual suggestions. I personally would've gone with an approach for a spell rotation that can build to either a black or white magic finishers for that summon; referencing back to FF3 where each summon had a black/white spell effect before actual Summoner job later on summoned the beasts for major elemental damage.I don’t know which version of 6 or 7 at least you were playing but randomly dumping out consecutive summons that don’t do anything with minimal effort and no sacrifice that stick around for 3 seconds is not the type of summons I remember from 6 or 7

But that still doesnt deter the fact that at the very least "current" Summmoner plays more into that summoned monster fantasy than old Summoner. I'm sorry but you're very wrong on this take.
Its totally fine if you hate current Summoner and prefer old Summoner's playstyle better. Thats why I wanted for that playstyle to return but be a different job. But trying to argue that it was Summoner's fantasy to began with is just no.
