Hamlet Defnese Chests

Please let me apologize in advance for such a noob question. I would sincerely appreciate clarification on how the hamlet defense chest works. I have done this a number of times, good scores, bad scores, failures. As best I can recall, at the end, I've always clicked on a chest, similar to Ifrit or Moogle run, but yesterday, by the time I got there, the chest was gone. Both runs I got absolutely nothing, no DM, etc. Prior to yesterday, as best I can recall, I've always had a chest to click on. How does this work?
Someone told me if I'm not near the chest when it's opened I cannot get any drops. Is that true also? Thanks.

P.S. - I didn't even get any DM yesterday with the chest gone.

In fact, you can't see what is droped on people who aren't near you. If you don't get anything it's only because you was unlucky.

i do get item one time when im very far from chest. like 1/5 :O just FYI

yes you get items if you are far from the chest. There is only 1 chest to click on so if someone else gets to it before you, you dont have to click it, but the items are randomly distributed. The loot works similar to defeating an enemy if you are far away you dont see who gets the item unless its you.

Also dark matter is a reward for people for low scores, I dont think I have ever got from the chest DM from high end scores

Nope, this is still an issue. Last run someone opened the chest and I was apparantly too far away to even see the drops, so I got nothing. IMO, this should be fixed, specific to Hamlet defense, as we are at the mercy of anyone in party who is unaware of how this works, and may open the chest prematurely. The drop rate is horrible enough to begin with. Spending close to an hour each run with re-entry cooldown only to have this happen just isn't right.

It just means the drops didnt went to you, like when people were farming inferno tapers and you stand at ifrit nodes, you wont be able to see if it drops to them, and they wont be able to see if it drops to you. But, it may still goes to your pool regardless of range.

you have a chance to get drop regardless of where you are when someone opens then chest. just because you didnt a couple times when you were too far doesnt mean anything. that being said we usually wait till everyone is near the chest to open it so we can see what everyone got.
