Because it's fun.

Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
Because GNB rules.
Main healer, but I kind of dual-main Tank (a lot of my first clears on Tanks); I like supporting and helping people. It's as simple as that. While my preference is doing so by healing, Tanks are badasses in this game that can eat attacks to the face, heal/shield/makethemselvessuperangry, heal/mitigate for party members, and say "Can I have some more?" Some of them are just...FUN...to play. Hitting Inner Beast then Primal Rend on WAR on a Lala is one of the most hilarious and amazing things in the history of MMOs.
Who are you ?
thank u, next
I would say give it a shot. Just start at the earliest dungeon and work your way up. If worried about how others would feel you can try Duty Support.I wish I could feel confident playing a tank. All the years I have played MMOs I never played a tank role. It may have something to do with how I grew up though. Playing army with my older brother and his friends they would only let me be the nurse being a female back then women were not in combat roles so I always was a healer. Fast forward to MMOs I just never tried it and always thought I would be bad at it. I admire people who are tanks for the control they maintain over a boss or dungeon though.
As a healer main im sure you've kept your eye on the tank so you would have a good understanding of what a good tank looks like...so now you can see what it feels like.

Because when doing most duties if the rest of the party dies, I can solo the boss... >.>
1.) Fast queue times
2.) Tanks have the most control over making sure nothing goes sideways in EW. By playing tank I can make sure that no matter what idiots I get landed with the run isn't completely intolerable(in dungeons).
Oh yeah there are moments like that and you feel like a god. I had to do that about 5 different times but I made sure either the following happens first.
1. We have wiped once before
2. Boss health is...around 20%
3. I'll quickly type if they are cool if I solo it ( and usually they will be if final boss ).
People like a good show.

Here are my reasons why I adore tanking & main tank:
- Situational/ Spatial awareness
- Timing defenses mitigation
- Simpler basic DPS
- Higher survivability
- Amazing plate glamours
- Feels heroic
- Faster Qeues
- Maintain control of the battle
- I like to ensure everyone feels safe & confident to do their part
- I still strive to become a better tank whenever
As for PLD (My main):
- Amazing emergency heals on self & others
- Amazing duo between physical & magical attacks (Similar to RDM’s minus the rez)
- I am a fan of the Holy Knight fantasy genre
- Amazing PLD cosmetics
- Hollow Ground is a huge saviour
- Feels noble & more tactical
Overall WHM is my 2nd favourite & believe it or not, I hardly play DOS & I easily get anxious/nervous when playing one (be it magican, melee or physical range) as I get short sighted with so many combos/rotations I can easily lose track & just isn’t my forte.
I like big axe and big sword. I also like small sword with shields. Not much else to it.
