    Is this normal?

I'm not a big PvP'er but I decided to give Crystalline Conflict a shot, especially since I needed it for my weekly journal. I played a handful of matches and almost every single one was a full team of DPS against a balanced group with a tank and healer. The games were over in less than two minutes because the balanced group just absolutely steamrolls the DPS team. Whether I was on the winning or losing team, as I've been on both now, it's just super boring and not at all fun. It seems to happen more frequently than it feels like it should, and I was just curious if this is something that's normal or if I've just had bad luck. If this is common, feels like I was right to avoid PvP for my playstyle and I don't think I'll be revisiting it much. Maybe it's just the queue trying to reduce wait times by being agnostic of roles?

Don't get me wrong, this isn't really a complaint, but if that stuff is normal I don't think I'd enjoy that mode so I was just hoping to hear some others' experience before I decide to write that component of the game off.

Roles really don't give a huge advantage in CC. I've seen pure-DPS teams absolutely steamroll a balanced team and vice-versa. I've seen a team without a single DPS class win, and also get stomped.
It's entirely on the skills of the player.

I would suggest continuing to try, as that is the only way you will get better and see more positive results. Though you could be the best player in the game and still have RNG against you with who you're paired up against, especially in unranked. Best of luck!

Just to give another perspective here, the playstyle of a balanced team (having the tank go first, dps do damage, healer support) in low/unranked games may also be more familiar to primarily PvE focused players. As your team composition becomes more diversified, so must the strategies you adopt in a game. Without knowing any details of your games; if the full DPS team attempting to play as if they are a balanced team, then that could be a reason you see them losing most often.

If it is any comfort to know, you are not the only person who has thought this way and experienced this. This was a very common misconception almost every one of us had when everyone was just getting to experience the Crystalline Conflict mode first released in Season 1 ("how is my rag-tag team supposed to beat a perfectly balanced team with healers/tanks/dps?"). Many people indeed stopped playing after that, but some stuck around and learned the answer to that question.

Edit: If your post is mainly asking whether or not games will match you in "unbalanced" teams often. Then the answer is yes, roles have no no bearing on your matchmaking. However, if there are 4 healers in que, the matchmaking system will attempt to split 2 healers per team. The same is true for tanks, dps, etc. So it is likely that there were just no other healers and tanks in que, and everyone wanted to play DPS that day which resulted in the party compositions you experienced. Hope that helps

Probably bad luck, as the system generally tries to balance this out (roles, then job type), but sometimes it just shits the bed bad.

Perhaps better to try out a bit more to get a higher sample.

But yes, you're running and uphill battle if your team is not balanced when the opponent is. It's not unwinnable, but it can be a pain. Although it depends of what type of imbalances you had. A team full of frontliners will be fine imo. A team full of ranged and support will just get crushed.

Atm most of the people that are playing Crystalline Conflict are those are likes to pvp, matches are gonna be very one sided. The best time to do pvp without getting steamrool is when the new series drop, atm these players are very try hards playing in casual since ranked queue are very bad lol, this is just from crystal dc i have yet to try other dc since pvp are usually better at other dc.

This is all really good perspective. I don't pvp much so I'm unfamiliar with the nuance of roles and the ratio of casual/dedicated players in different queues and such. From what I gather is that it can be really swingy, but a run of so many consistently one-sided matches may have been a bit out of the ordinary for me to experience like that.

I appreciate the insights, I'll probably just stick to only doing it for journals lol

The weird team balance comes from the system checking each sub role for each team, they can have at most difference of 1. However this system does not try to balance healers to tanks or ranged to melee. That's why you can get 1T1H3D vs 5D, but those 3D v 5D can't be something like 1 caster vs 3 casters for example.

It's been suggested before to tune the matchmaker further to get better ratio, but they have yet to do anything about it. Not to mention that some spesific Jobs like SGE completely throw sub role out of the window and queueing as one and being put against AST+WHM is absolutely awful.

no its normal, alot of people feel the same since alot of the game feels like its either bland or not fun content so it makes sense that pvp would be much the same in terms of matchmaking. no chaotic intense battles of fun or heart pounding scuffles.
its just one sided steam roll 90% of the time.
