    Fate Momentum

    When people make a party of 8 people and do fates they go by super fast. That means flying from spot to spot completing fates in basically under a minute. What if another tier of fates showed up at that point? That would provide an incentive for maximizing efficiency in endless combat modes.

    If there were a counter or a gauge for the rate of completion within a certain timeframe, similar to the exp chain bonus for individual enemies, then another tier of more difficult fates could spawn with increased or additional rewards.

    Imagine a boss fate spawning due to the efforts of people in a party rapidly handling all the smaller symptomatic fates in a region. Imagine that by defeating this boss everyone area wide would be affected by a temporary buff to material drop rate, or some sort of increased drop chance for exclusive materials, or even mounts as there's a precedent with Odin and Ixion. It might take further testing, but if there were tiers to that buff based on how fast the Boss was summoned and cleared then there'd be some striation based on player ability.

    2: Yes, this is a thing. The Rare FATEs in Shadowbringers and Endwalker require a chain of normal fates to be completed + their long respawn timer.
    As well as the rare fate in Yanxia. The ShB/EW ones give 6 times the Bicolor drop, as well as items tradeable for minions/mounts.

    No. FATEs aren't set up for speed running. I doubt SE would ever do it but you never know.

    One thing I do wish they would do is set things up so a FATE will spawn when there are no other active FATEs in the zone. It's annoying to sit around for a couple of minutes watching the map to see what spawns next. ARR zones are pretty good with always having at least one active but expansion zones aren't.

    So, there is a FATE scaling system that has been around for years and years but it's not perfect.

    You've probably noticed it in action: Some FATE that you've been farming has 4 mobs, some more people show up and murder it, then the next time it spawns it has 8 mobs. (etc). Or a dozen people swarm on a boss FATE, it melts, then the next time it spawns it takes ages to kill solo, etc.

    If you join a FATE party for any extended period of time you'll definitely notice that the FATES become a slog after a while, then people will swap instances or move to a new low-population area and the FATEs are melting again.

    What you end up with is a FATE that is scaled to the number of people who participated in it *last* time it spawned.
