I'm not talking about the servers.
When the distance between two places increase, so does the chance of problems occuring within the infrastructure connecting the two. Shorter distance (fewer nodes) reduce chances, that's just how it is. Nothing is guaranteed in this world, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't minimize the chances of bad stuff happening.
Not just the UK. Connectivity issues within Europe are pretty rare between countries too. For me to reach UK servers, I would go through a lot fewer network nodes than if I want to reach JP nodes. It's pretty obvious that if I need to pass through 100 network devices, there is a lot higher chance of one of them having a problem than there is if I only need to pass through 15.
