Mao nots agree with gettings rid of flyings. Is many zones whats tolerable only with flyings. Also, would mess ups activities likes hunts trains. So to no flyings Mao says NOPES!

Flying is a nice convenience but....
IMO, it is also pretty damaging given how small the zones are, it absolutely removes that exploration factor of the game, especially with how easy flying is to unlock.
EverQuest is that way ----}
Enjoy Life you only get one.
Honestly, I do think there is something to be said for some of these ideas. I think it would be nice to have a 10- or 30-minute boat ride the first time we go someplace, with teleportation available after that.
I also think that the overworld of FF14 is largely wasted potential. When every last square yalm is filled with enemies, their presences ceases to mean anything...except to call into question how anyone survives navigating places like Labyrinthos and Thavnair. I think it would be better if enemies were isolated to specific places that made sense, with FATEs popping up in otherwise vacant locations to temporarily provide enemies in "tamed" areas, and then when those FATEs were gone that area would be safe again. The FATE enemies could be the same pushovers we know and love today, but for some enemies in dens or whatever, it would be nice if they were a bit more challenging, with the hopes that it wouldn't feel like you were literally a one-person army that can go literally anywhere they please. If enemies could offer even the mildest resistance, the world might seem a bit less empty. And heck, half of players have Sleep spells, with absolutely no reason to ever use them. I miss wandering past players who are in trouble and tossing them a quick heal; that always felt nice. Nobody ever needs that anymore, because every overworld enemy is easily dispatched. Not the end of the world, but feels like missed opportunities for organic interaction with other players.
That said, I think the ship has sailed. FF14 already has a cadence and a pattern it's in, so unless FF14 does a WoW Cataclysm or something, I'd be surprised to see anything like this. Maybe for the next MMO in 10 years tho! XD
Some QoL you can prune for yourself, such as teleporting. I have a friend who creates leveling challenges for himself on a regular basis. Can't teleport, can only slow walk, only equips quest rewards, etc.You heard me, get rid of all aetherytes. Even the ones inside major city hubs. Best way for FFXIV to feel like a lived in world and an MMO is to force players to have to travel on foot and use their mounts as the only way to get to places faster. Also make overworld mobs be really aggressive and hard to intice players to be in parties for safety and if theyre not overleveled or are not skilled enough to evade multiple mobs.
Add in airships and boats to travel to most major hubs and have it be on a schedule and also a place where players hang around and interact on the ride and even fish or play some minigames to pass the time.
Kinda half kidding with this because obviously most people would just hate this but to be honest at this point I think FFXIV could use with some QoL prunning (not counting QoL UI ofcourse) if we want for the game to be fun and exciting to play. At least for me
Give it a try if you think doing those types of things will make the game more for fun for you. Let's not inflict on it everyone who likely feel differently. While there's a short period that traveling through a new area of the world does feel good that way, it doesn't last long. It especially doesn't last once you get into the repetitive end game.
I would be more than thrilled to have a transportation system in-game that was somewhat real time. If you could go up on deck, look around, play a minigame (cards or something), buy food, just simple things while you're waiting, and most importantly, actually see the surrounding area while you were travelling. I don't just want a griffon type thing from WoW though, that's just a forced alt-tab moment. Optional is the key though. That said, for how much effort it would be, it wouldn't be worth it. It would simply be another thing people got angry about and say was wasted dev time.
