While I understand the notion of making the game more immersive, the problem isn't just flying, aetherytes, porting, etc. What would that do? Make us run through safe zones? Is there ever really any danger? Even on foot you can outrun mobs before they kill you. The fixes would have to go beyond porting/aetherytes, flying, etc.

"Make mobs be aggressive and hard" aka if you somehow pull more than 2, then youd be screwed.

Although at this point Im asking for FFXIV to be like classic WoW with everything in its core design, but I know that theres so much that the game needs to fix. It has to be an entirely different game than what it currently is at this point.

Mao nots agree with gettings rid of flyings. Is many zones whats tolerable only with flyings. Also, would mess ups activities likes hunts trains. So to no flyings Mao says NOPES!

Flying is a nice convenience but....

IMO, it is also pretty damaging given how small the zones are, it absolutely removes that exploration factor of the game, especially with how easy flying is to unlock.

I mean, one only needs to remember that despite having a better designed overworld for their game, WoW did try to completely remove their flying feature once and to say it was a catastrophe would be an understatement. Plus it did nothing to solve the issues they believe it caused or did the overall health of the game improve as their claims said it would.
XIV's overworld isn't even close to being in the same position to where they can try to justify cutting flying and/or atherytes and they very likely aren't going to attempt it either.

Or they could essentially take a page from games like Xenoblade where most zones had some enemies that were extremely high level making it so when travelling through them later you weren't completely aggro proof. Some of those enemies were even migratory and would wander around large paths of the maps. FFXI even did this to a degree as well though it was generally due to either that specific part of the map being tied to a later part of the game or the monster in question being an NM or HNM.

I would like a mix of aggressive mobs that would follow you through the zone until you zone into another zone and passive mobs.

Honestly, I do think there is something to be said for some of these ideas. I think it would be nice to have a 10- or 30-minute boat ride the first time we go someplace, with teleportation available after that.

I also think that the overworld of FF14 is largely wasted potential. When every last square yalm is filled with enemies, their presences ceases to mean anything...except to call into question how anyone survives navigating places like Labyrinthos and Thavnair. I think it would be better if enemies were isolated to specific places that made sense, with FATEs popping up in otherwise vacant locations to temporarily provide enemies in "tamed" areas, and then when those FATEs were gone that area would be safe again. The FATE enemies could be the same pushovers we know and love today, but for some enemies in dens or whatever, it would be nice if they were a bit more challenging, with the hopes that it wouldn't feel like you were literally a one-person army that can go literally anywhere they please. If enemies could offer even the mildest resistance, the world might seem a bit less empty. And heck, half of players have Sleep spells, with absolutely no reason to ever use them. I miss wandering past players who are in trouble and tossing them a quick heal; that always felt nice. Nobody ever needs that anymore, because every overworld enemy is easily dispatched. Not the end of the world, but feels like missed opportunities for organic interaction with other players.

That said, I think the ship has sailed. FF14 already has a cadence and a pattern it's in, so unless FF14 does a WoW Cataclysm or something, I'd be surprised to see anything like this. Maybe for the next MMO in 10 years tho! XD
