Oh boy! :S
Reading through a foolish thread like this can be tiring and fun at the same time because of the troll / creative responses that comes with it! That much about the death panalty can be changed, only adjusted. Maybe a new "fear factor" to death would be added along with gear dmg. (aging perhaps)
Oh gawd no. New games deliver new ideas. One of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.
Deleveling was a necessary element as the game doesn't punish you enough for dying in FFXIV.
Oh look, your gear condition has lowered by 10%! And you have to return to a home point. Is this supposed to be scary? NO.
I want to feel terrified of dying. I want to **** my pants every time I enter a dungeon or face a threatening enemy. This game NEEDS the element of constant fear.
Stop cattering to the casual market, and please try to bring back hardcore elements from the old FFXI days.
Please bring back deleveling for 2.0!!!
No matter what, I don't fear death when I know what I'm doing. If things go down hill, I won't give a sh!t. I'm responsible either way for my death and other and I make up for it.
Yeah, loose it all or your soul! :P
You choose, Heaven or HELL! >
I think if there could be a way for twisted need to fear death could apply... SE can send you a bill for every time you died and they had to raise you on the spot(with no gear dmg).
I support more dmg to gear for greater and more epic deaths! I approve this! If you get one-shotted for like 2000 dmg, you gear would be 1/3 durability. If your a noob and you die, who cares, low level gear doesn't cost much to repair to begin with though. You high level players are the ones who need to watch out, hahahahahaha!

i totally wouldn't mind this.
Just think about all the Paladin with fast pants who had to sac. pull in dynamis. This penalty wasn't always what it was cracked up to be.
I'm gonna have to say no.
Don't forget the thieves!
Sac pulling Paladins!? Let us never forget the poor taru BLMs that frequently litter the floors of dynamis!
United we stand!
Once forced into death only to lose countless amounts of EXP!
NEVER AGAIN!
NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
It doesn't work in the modern marketplace. The market is more casual-driven and the model of "futility = fun" and punishing concepts will no longer fly.
It doesn't mean that the mechanic is bad - some people don't mind it while others do. But, moving forward, this is not something that will work.
This. Sorry OP we grew up and don't have time to "suffer' in games like we did back when we were 15 and had nothing to do all day.
Pandemonium Warren and Absolute Virtue come to mind.
Agreed, this is a generation of mobile gamers who are always on the move and due to time constraints and jobs, they cannot devote their time to a game every 24/7 like you do OP. (They do have lives outside of the internet... but you wouldn't know about "OUTSIDE" would you?)
