Most importantly, why would you want to **** your pants? O_oOne of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.
Deleveling was a necessary element as the game doesn't punish you enough for dying in FFXIV.
Oh look, your gear condition has lowered by 10%! And you have to return to a home point. Is this supposed to be scary? NO.
I want to feel terrified of dying. I want to **** my pants every time I enter a dungeon or face a threatening enemy. This game NEEDS the element of constant fear.
Stop cattering to the casual market, and please try to bring back hardcore elements from the old FFXI days.
Please bring back deleveling for 2.0!!!
Maybe the FFXIV team should just give you people who want to delevel and slow experience points your very own server? Then continue to bring out a great game like what they plan for 2.0.One of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.

I love how little people actually want to discuss the topic at hand instead of outright dismissing it.
Your right everyone death should continue to be a non-issue.
*please note*
Discussing the topic does not mean you agree with the OP, there are ways to flat out disagree without looking like a tool. There are also ways to agree with the concept of death being something you should care about, but not be a loss of exp.
Although seriously exp flows so quickly in this game you would never notice a death exp tax if they let us buffer from 50. Even if you lost 10k exp you get 10x that from a AV/CC run so you even have a few death mulligans in the instance lol.
It's not as harsh a penalty as people think it would be, knee jerk reactions all around.

Thanks for the offer, but I have to pass
Having played FFXI for only a short period of time, I did not like the aspect of dlvl or exp loss upon death so I would be against it coming back.
I think depending on the situation, FFXIV has 'time-saving' penalties for dying and others have pointed it out already. For instance if you get KO'ed outside in the world somewhere(non-instanced, non-levequest related) and have to teleport back, then your anima takes a hit whether that's 2, 4, or 6 anima. Furthermore, as someone has mentioned, the act of returning within instances upon total party wipe would mean extra time taken to get back to where you were, a hindrance to speed-runs, or even regular dungeon runs, etc.
Thus, the ultimate penalty of death is time itself. Of course this was more apparent in FFXI with exp loss which would take time to replenish. I feel SE has improved the loss of time trying to 'get back' into the game with FFXIV, but then again there are fixed times where Anima is replenished as well meaning you must take more time on your mount to get to your destination.
Perhaps the addition of exp loss would help in the department of more careful planning for dungeons, battles etc., but having lost something that I have already taken the time to gain would cause more frustration in my view.
I know this is all very obvious stuff that I'm pointing out, but thought I'd share my own opinion about it.
So you pretty much want people to pay for repair cost and go xp? no.. just.. no...
Barring the exorbitant outcry against exp loss, does anyone really think the current death penalty is fine as it is? A few minutes of sickness with ghetto Raise/returning, and every so often, at a rather tame rate, having to repair your gear? Which of course is free if you level crafts, 500 gil and a free DM5 if you sit in Ul'dah for someone to repair it, or 5k if you simply must throw your money away to the repair NPC.
Indeed, you can argue that dying hurts your chances in an endgame instance, that Dark Matter won't farm itself, but what about in an exp party? At least in XI overzealous Black Mages and Rangers would try to have a modicum of sense when it comes to enmity, because losing the experience you just spent ten minutes working on sucks, but in this it's just amusing to pull hate and fall to the ground in seconds from ornery, inexplicably not extinct raptors. You're just going to get raised and get ridiculous amounts of exp shortly thereafter anyway, with no real penalty to you, assuming a White Mage is the one Raising.
I'm not advocating exp loss, since we already know it is not going to happen anyway, but you can punish people for going full retard in other ways, and those methods should be looked into.
