In a sense. Imagine if you die while fighting Ifrit at cap. You would Delevel if you lost.
What deleving encourages is more thought before a fight. More Precaution.
It also discourages zerg rushing enemies with complete disregard, though this was more of a problem when parties were 15 man.
For those of you who dont know, you only lose exp if you don't get a raise)

You will soon learn that when people don't agree they often resort to spitting Vitrol instead of proper discussion. For the most part we have had some good dialogue for both sides at least.

    Better than most threads do.

I generally fall in the camp that would be ok with exp loss on death. But then when someone mentioned Garuda, and how people are already put off to waste time it kinda struck a chord with me. People should not be afraid to take on challenging content. The fight is challenging to me personally. And i give my best effort trying in the fight already because i want to win. Adding exp loss could not make me concentrate any harder during the fight. The same concept I imagine goes for those speed running dungeon, or working on hamlet seals.

Yoshida already said xp loss as death penalty isn't an option. IMO xp loss and delevel is a totally silly mechanics because in the end you will always find situations where death is unavoidable (like dynamis)...

Deleveling was a necessary element as the game doesn't punish you enough for dying in FFXIV.
Oh look, your gear condition has lowered by 10%! And you have to return to a home point. Is this supposed to be scary? NO.
I want to feel terrified of dying. I want to **** my pants every time I enter a dungeon or face a threatening enemy. This game NEEDS the element of constant fear.
Stop cattering to the casual market, and please try to bring back hardcore elements from the old FFXI days.

Please bring back deleveling for 2.0!!!
You can achieve what you want yourself. You don't need SE to change the game for you. All you have to do is delete your character when you die. There you go, you have your hardcore penalty.

He also said he didn't want death to be a laughable event either. There has to be something that isn't a hillarious dent in your gil or dark matter wallet.

Oh shit you have space for 10 million stacks? Tell me more about that.

edit: It doesn't matter if you die or not, your gear will still degenerate. the result is that you still end up paying to repair it.

Worst mechanic ever. I would be severely disappointed in SE if they brought this old craptastic feature from XI to XIV. I love FFXI but never really cared much for the whole lose exp from dying crap. It didn't make me feel scared to die it just made me mad as hell because I would have to waste time to go get my level back.

I understand the desire for that feeling but why create the infinite time sink? I would personally much rather spend that time actually doing content and trying to get it down than waste time having to go back to re-level up. As of now, I think the death penalties are nearly perfect, maybe they could make them a little more harsh but not via exp loss. They could get creative and find the middle ground, or they can keep going with what they got and a percentage of us will be happy nevertheless.

On a side note, SE just needs to go ahead and make a FFXI 2.0 so all these people will stop making posts about how to make XIV into XI. Though I did hear from Vanafest 2012 XI is getting a new expansion next year, just an fyi for those interested.

Ok, here's a solution: you can only repair your own gear.

Know what a hardcore player is? Someone who commits an amount of time significantly above the average player. There is a difference between "elite" and hardcore. I can't think of a better penalty than the amount of time and resources it takes the average person to level all crafts.

    How's that?
