This animated fellow has the right ideaNo please and big "NO" lol
De-Level prevent people from helping each other
Now without d-lvl, I can go help anyone even it is a very hard fight... even ppl don't know nothing and we're doing garuda, I don't care we keep trying & trying till everyone know what to do
But with d-lvl, ppl will not wait after 1st wipe ;p
That's my personal opinion tho ^-^/
I generally fall in the camp that would be ok with exp loss on death. But then when someone mentioned Garuda, and how people are already put off to waste time it kinda struck a chord with me. People should not be afraid to take on challenging content. The fight is challenging to me personally. And i give my best effort trying in the fight already because i want to win. Adding exp loss could not make me concentrate any harder during the fight. The same concept I imagine goes for those speed running dungeon, or working on hamlet seals.

Yoshida already said xp loss as death penalty isn't an option. IMO xp loss and delevel is a totally silly mechanics because in the end you will always find situations where death is unavoidable (like dynamis)...
Ok, here's a solution: you can only repair your own gear.
Know what a hardcore player is? Someone who commits an amount of time significantly above the average player. There is a difference between "elite" and hardcore. I can't think of a better penalty than the amount of time and resources it takes the average person to level all crafts.
How's that?
That's not what I'd call a great idea especially because it helps alienate crafters even more.
It doesn't have to be tied to exp loss, I suggested it could be tied to a number of things.
Anima loss for one, hell make it something instead of a penalty for death give a reward for living. Give us a signet style buff so we can attain company seals while we gain exp only obtainable in town. It's a permanent buff and doesn't wear off UNLESS you die.
Obviously it's not a crippling effect and wont stop death in instanced content from being a laughable hinderance, perhaps your death could be tied into adding a few minutes to your entrance timer? Maybe if nobody dies during a run they could shave a few minutes off your total run time making speed-runs easier to accomplish (Although not getting killed is kind of part in parcel with speed runs)
There needs to be some way that me or anyone else might want to double check what we are doing before we get ourselves killed. If it's not exp it could be any number of things, just leaving it as a minor hinderance just encourages people to ram through everything without a care in the world.
The point of any game is to not get killed. And in addition we already have a penalty regardless if you die or not. There needs to be some way that me or anyone else might want to double check what we are doing before we get ourselves killed. Perhaps they should boost the damage rate on gears.
You can achieve what you want yourself. You don't need SE to change the game for you. All you have to do is delete your character when you die. There you go, you have your hardcore penalty. One of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.
Deleveling was a necessary element as the game doesn't punish you enough for dying in FFXIV.
Oh look, your gear condition has lowered by 10%! And you have to return to a home point. Is this supposed to be scary? NO.
I want to feel terrified of dying. I want to **** my pants every time I enter a dungeon or face a threatening enemy. This game NEEDS the element of constant fear.
Stop cattering to the casual market, and please try to bring back hardcore elements from the old FFXI days.
Please bring back deleveling for 2.0!!!
Worst mechanic ever. I would be severely disappointed in SE if they brought this old craptastic feature from XI to XIV. I love FFXI but never really cared much for the whole lose exp from dying crap. It didn't make me feel scared to die it just made me mad as hell because I would have to waste time to go get my level back. One of the best features of FFXI is not present right now in FFXIV.

I understand the desire for that feeling but why create the infinite time sink? I would personally much rather spend that time actually doing content and trying to get it down than waste time having to go back to re-level up. As of now, I think the death penalties are nearly perfect, maybe they could make them a little more harsh but not via exp loss. They could get creative and find the middle ground, or they can keep going with what they got and a percentage of us will be happy nevertheless.
On a side note, SE just needs to go ahead and make a FFXI 2.0 so all these people will stop making posts about how to make XIV into XI. Though I did hear from Vanafest 2012 XI is getting a new expansion next year, just an fyi for those interested.

I played XI for years. Owned an Aegis too if that speaks to my playtime. Led one of the most successful linkshells on Titan server too. Bad assumption is bad.
