As long as Retainer item storage space is limited, it would not be desirable to have to share it between multiple characters. Maybe if there were a separate bag set aside specifically for cross-character access (basically an account bank) then that would be fine.
Not having separate retainers to send on Ventures would also suck.

Regarding quest completion, that is a huge penalty to experience to level the character. Imagine making a new character and you can't get xp from leveling MSQ at all. I think I might just not even make an alt character, if that was the case. Maybe it would be okay if they rejigged the system so you can optionally replay MSQ and still get the experience.
Thing is though, If the retainers were shared then they'd serve as the method to move items around characters.

On the quests exp thing. TBH since said alt would have access to everything the main had acquired, leveling an alt wouldn't be much different than leveling ARR jobs from lv 1 after you finished the MSQ with your first and ran out of side quests doing other jobs.

Additionally it would have slowed inflation at least a bit since the MSQ as it stands now dumps millions on every character that completes it. The same could be said for retainer ventures as well as I'm sure there are a considerable number of people venture spamming across multiple characters to generate gil. This is tons of currency being created daily in a system that lacks things to destroy it.
