Do you want SE to check each player individually? Do you want them to decide your gender based on the name on the credit card you pay with? If so, what if a 17 year old girl pays with her dad's CC?

Or what if someone has an unisex name (like Robin or Casey), how will SE know what your gender is, will they call you and decide based on your voice?

I was thinking about the option for those that care, but I guess someone could lie about their gender, that's their choice, I suppose you can only trust in peoples honesty for whatever it's worth.

You didn't offend me, I just see the idea as completely pointless . People who want to trick people into thinking they're the opposite gender will still do that, even with these characters behind their names . People who don't want to trick people like that would just tell people they're guys (or girls, if they play male characters).

So the way I see it, there's no point in adding it.

No, OP, this idea is ridiculous. Either assume all players to be male until proven female, or treat people as their in-game gender. It's your choice.

Personally, I treat female characters as females unless they ask me not to. That doesn't mean I give them free gear, however.

The players chose their gender, so they are fully aware of the "confusion" and it may actually be what they are looking: role-play another gender!
I don't even bother asking people their RL gender, RL name, RL country, RL picture, RL credit card number... I'm playing a game, not trying to scam people. Because that's kind of the feeling I get when people start asking me a lot of personal questions after being in a party together for 10 minutes. So, I simply reply with answers that can also directly apply to my character (which is really funny and demands to be creative! )

Anyway, my point is, don't sweat it.
Just call them by their character name and gender.

It's usually smart to just treat everyone equally, regardless of gender. That's what I do.
If you find it within your interests to get to know someone or faun over them, just verify their gender then.
For everyone else, it couldn't matter less whether that Miqo is a guy or a girl.
