Total Noob need help

Hey guys, I play on the Lindblum server. I made a thaumaturge midget character ( forgot what the short people were called)... Alright well i chose to start off in this port town.

Im wondering what I should start doing. also, whats the primary method of gaining levels in this game? Is it better to do quests or grind constantly on monsters?

when i start a new job i like to grind a bit on mobs just outside of town and hit up behests at the first camp outside of town, guild leves are a great way to gain sp.

behests are give by the battlewardens which spawn on the hour every hour at each camp.

im currently at black rock camp. my char can kill those rats and moles, but everything else pretty much kills me. stuck at phys lvl 9, and exp seems to be going slowly.

Honestly La Nostica (Limsa area) needs a lot of work as far as behest, leves, and general mobs go. It was great in the alpha but the game has changed a lot since then. If you want to level faster id recomend goinng to Thanolan (Uldah area) and hanging out at camp dry bone, untill level 16 or 17 killing marmots coblyns and dodos. After that move to Camp Horrizon to do behest and leve quests ( Id recomend joining an LS or finding a group to do leves with as they are the best way to get SP)

If you are looking to get some super fast exp (physical levels) id recomend leveling other jobs just outside of Gridiana, when I go outside and just kill mobs it takes me about 1-2hrs to hit rank 10 on a job and I gain a ton of exp boosting my physical level. Crafting is another great option for boosting your physical level.

To get to Uldah area take the boat in Limsa (its free atm) this will drop you off in West Thanolan, and its not to bad of a jog to get to Uldah.

I'll let you know right now to not go to Gridania when you're starting to take rank 10 battle/field leves. Because of the corridors of the Black Shroud, Emerald Moss is very dangerous to navigate around due to your leves having you run straight through areas of aggroing mobs.

La Noscea and Thanalan are both fine otherwise, Thanalan might have a peiste hiding out somewhere in the leve areas so just be careful there.

Sp in the order from best to worst

Group Leves => Group Grind (behest here if it is 8 or less ppl) => Behest (if it is a full one) => Solo leves => Solo grind

Behest can be #2 or #3 depending on how full it is... if it is full you will have a pretty substantial SP loss, if it is not above 8 you will get 150-300 a kill normally.

All in all you will level 2-3xs faster in a group then solo in this game. Quest give no Sp at all so they are not an option for leveling.


A word of advise when level a new character put a decent amount of stats into Vitality especially if you are soloing you can put stuff into other areas when you are comfortable solo. This will almost double your HP pool which will help with your deaths. Another this is avoid big number syndrome. If you are fighting a mob that takes 2mins and gives you 400sp it is more effective to kill mobs that die in 30secs and give 150sp.

I suggest getting an active linkshell (one that does leves and partys together) as soon as possible. Without one of these you will find it very hard to progress in this game since the majority of the community does not party and almost no one uses the party formation tool.

I would restart your guy and set your starting town in Thananal. Ul'dah/ Every one in the game is gathering their. Gridinia is a gost town on most if not all servers because of the horrible layout of the land.

That's no big deal, you can teleport in every city in a second with no problems, and join all three towns leves with no problems. Plus people will gather (as soon as SE relases) to newJeuno
