    EU to NA lag

So i discovered that alot of EU ppl are having lag and high latency right now. Does any EU players playing on NA servers here have the same issue? curious on whats your experience in the past few days. Something aint right with the square enix servers. all my EU friends who arent even in the same country are experiencing massive lag spikes and high latency.

It's the the NA servers because NA people would be having issues.

    It's routing issues. Network related.

That's not an SE node... That's an isp node...

The internet is not point to point. Which means multiple entities control the path from you to the game servers.

I was going to say as a NA player playing on NA I was having massive lag spikes yesterday. I haven't tried yet today.

I am in Northeast NA and my connection is better with the European servers since some months now. My ping with the NA servers is often about 400-450 ms and it’s really frustrating and makes some content downright unplayable. I get that with 2 different Canadian ISPs and the problem seems to be with SE’s ISP. It used to be around 40-50. In Europe I get 120-150 which is bad but tolerable.

There’s several threads about that already in the tech support forums.

There’s a bad node at NTT in San Jose… NTT is SE’s ISP. It’s been affecting East US for months now, and from the tracerts, it looks like the EU players are on the same route. Although some of them showed a really high number in Chicago (?) too, but my route doesn’t go through there.

It was near unplayable for me a couple months ago… now it seems to be more intermittent, but it’s never entirely gone away. I just keep sending tracerts through SE’s form. It’s not our ISP’s problem, so it’s not like we can do anything else.

It's definitely not ISP (EU peeps) problem, there's plenty of threads about this in Technical Support subforum.

ISP is any provider that has internet links. It may not be YOUR ISP that's having an issue, but it is AN ISP.

It's not the servers. My pings been a solid 25 for almost 2 years, except for a few days last week where I got routed through Chicago for some reason.

There is a super thread in the Technical Support forum about this. It was found to be some sort of political issue in the US that impacts one of the internet nodes. SE doesn't have control over it but it is right before the hops to the NA servers.

It's like a road and a path being dug up right in front of a shop you own. You have no control over that, yet it impacts your business greatly.

SE usually tries to address these problems by contacting them, especially if it's a DDoS, but since it's been a political issue it seems to have been harder to achieve.

You can get around it with a VPN anyway. I got a significant ping reduction even from my normal ping using one actually. It's not even a gaming VPN either and it works great.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
