Tbh I find it weird that the ‘make ffxiv defined by being a game you can easily not-play’ actually worked lol. Then again, I guess it does make sense relative to MMOs, so what’s more surprising is that other games aren’t taking the exact same approach (not that I would really know if they did lol)

i didn't read every post but the summary arguement against this is, people have hated the weekly chore of tome grinding and weekly raids since twintania so its this type of get off and do something else quickly has always been a thing.
once people feel the only reason to hop on is to do their daily/weekly chores for this game or even any other they will start to resent having to do it.

Agreed. To be honest, whilst I can somewhat tolerate it here, the game I played prior to this one was very strongly committed to this business model - arguably worse in that game's case as the reward was a limited-time 'event only' item, thus prompting more of a FOMO mindset in players who couldn't tolerate the idea of never being able to obtain said reward.i didn't read every post but the summary arguement against this is, people have hated the weekly chore of tome grinding and weekly raids since twintania so its this type of get off and do something else quickly has always been a thing.

It can at least be said that the 'grind rewards' here don't seem to actually disappear after a relatively short set period of time.
Eitherway, I'm not really a fan of 'circular feedback loops' - as they (in a sense) coerce players into a specific activity that they don't necessarily enjoy, but feel like they have to tolerate, in order to obtain a reward. Which, in turn, lets the gaming company point at the predictably-high engagement numbers/metrics as "proof" that players like that activity.
People can like more than one thing. Sometimes, they can even like one thing a bit more over the other, but they still like both things. Some people, though some black magic, no doubt, can like multiple things. at the same time.
The idea that a person should only play and like one game forever, until they die, over every other game and never try anything new is just silly and maybe a bit deranged.

I think an issue is the attitude of the game saying it's ok just just dip in and out when you feel like it is counter to the way a lot of the content in the game works. Ultimates require a commitment, savage requires a commitment, Criterion requires commitment. All of which is made worse with an inflexible and dogmatic 2 minute meta. It's burning high end raiders out so they're not sticking around. The lack of casual relic grind and exploratory zone this time has made the issue worse because historically that is the kind of content that can be dipped in and out of. It's nice on an individual level to not feel pressured to repeatedly sign into the game but this patch cycle in particular has not provided content that gels with that sentiment.
WoW raid -9+bosses ...FFXIV raid - 4 bosses...
WoW raid - RNG mechanics that at points require add-ons
FFXIV - telegraph mechanics that you can learn without addons but the community uses them as a crunch
WoW difficulties -Normal, Heroic, Mythic
FFXIV - normal, savage.
WoW - flex 10-30 cept mythic 20
FFXIV - 8
Just looking at these few notes even the team are similar skill level (non RWF raiders) going on both of them it should take WoW longer to complete just because bigger size and more people. Also people compare raids mythic on the ultimate level at least later on fights and final fantasy release theirs January vs WoW mythic opening I believe in early May and final fantasy raid releasing late the same month. So wow released a raid double the size, with time wasting trash mobs between each boss and the content that's equal to something that was released 4 months prior with mythic being ultimate levels and you're saying people are still raiding in WoW.....hmmm big shock
What I really found funny about this list:
"WoW raid - RNG mechanics that at points require add-ons
FFXIV - telegraph mechanics that you can learn without addons but the community uses them as a crunch"
I assume you meant "crutch" here. DBM (Deadly Boss Mods) is a major 'crutch', so at least we're good here.
