Character Growth: Leveling is part of RPGs

    Hello there,
I'd like to let you know what's my opinion about the hot topic of leveling in Final Fantasy XIV. I've read a lot of threads about it, and what I could deduce is that none wants a faster way of leveling.

Final Fantasy VIII, Island closest to Hell

In each Final Fantasy titles, or in general RPGs, leveling is one of the main aspects of the game, such as story theme or battle system. People that like this gender of games also like building up their characters, spending hours to achieve to highest level in the game. Someone could love it, someone could like it less, but if you play RPGs this is something you expect. I think that a way to evaluate an RPG is how fun is the leveling phase, because it represents a big part of the game itself.

In the Player's Poll I answered that now leveling is too fast, you can achieve level 50 in 3 days. This ruins the game experience in some ways, and deprive Final Fantasy XIV of a key aspect of fun.

    Natalan, and its wolves...

Please don't misunderstand me, I don't like FFXI's leveling system [old style (and new style "Abyssea" )] which was too much time consuming, but it was at the same time engaging anyway. What I'd like to see in future Final Fantasy XIV is an in between solution, where you can hit level 50 in 2-3 weeks, enjoying the new landscapes and monsters, and get some skill in doing this.

It's hard to feel the growth of your character if it happens in just few hours, so please consider this for future updates.

What do you think guys about it?

    P.S.
In my opinion there should be a tweak for battles, still too much confusing and without strategy (I'm not talking of Primal or Dungeons fights ) but this is another topic.

I guess you didn't see the official poll results.

Q3/Q4. Do you think the pace of leveling up Disciplines of War and Magic classes is appropriate? (When not power leveling, mind you.)

If you form a bell curve with those numbers, it hints more towards leveling being too fast than it being too slow. I think if leveling for war/magic was evened out (No PLing, higher levels shouldn't be easier than low levels), than that part would be just be fine. Gathering classes are fine, as well.

I don't support crafting classes being any quicker, period. It should be way slower. People who love grinding need some place to go, and that should be it.

Ugh, I hope this is not the opinion of Yoshi. It would be nice to be able to be a crafter without dedicating months of your life to what is easily one of the most dreadfully painful and boring mini-games I have ever played.

I got leatherworker 1 to 50 in about a week. leves are so much better nowadays and saves so much time farming materials for straight up grinding.

That's the trouble with this game. You start with a bunch of quests, you have a launch number of leve points. When that is done, you go in to a 20 level drought where you are forced to grind your guts out.
It isn't a matter of 'is too fast' or 'takes too long' it's a lack of consistency. Most people who play MMO's know the regiment and 45 is half way to 50. They see these huge grinds at 25 and they assume it's 1000 times worse at 45 and say screw that.

Crafting is a whole other bag of bolts. It's by design a mash enter grind because they tied quality to exper so if you are a true crafter and it's in your nature to strive for quality the exper gains will be higher. To combat that, they built in fail. I can't count the number of times I would synth for quality not for the exper but for the quality and end up with botched synth or back to back to back to back fails to drive down the quality by eating the Dura. It really very much forces you to either mash enter or deal with 80% fail/ botch. It's very easy to see the algorithm's and know that you are beating your head on a wall. You just give up, mash enter and grind out the levels.

Sadly these polls aren't accurate when they don't have a way to do the poll through game considering the amounts of players that don't actually visit the forums at all. Just putting that out there.

the leveling experience, outside of grinding groups and powerleveling, DOES take about 2-3 weeks.

lengthening the experience curve is only going to jack up the game further, make the story so you have to grind before you can advance, and make exp groups more essential than they are now as they will still be the only viable way to level up fast, and be the only way that won't drive people crazy (like it is now)

I'm not really sure why you bring up the island closest to hell, as that was an optional level up spot pretty much for the very end of FF8

You might not feel accomplished if you get to 50 in 3 days, but I don't see why simply making it longer should make you feel accomplished either if the content is the exact same.

Even if you level up fast, you still have long term goals to complete. From gathering achievements, to relics. no one can cakewalk those stuff.

The only thing they need to do is make content that people want to do while lvling up that's all does not matter how fast you get there. All the ppl screaming there no point to mid lvl content, well there is as long as the content is fun and gains you exp while doing so, ppl will do it and have fun,. Content will not be skipped as long as the dev team puts in good mid lvl content to lvl on.

I think a lot of of ppl just wanna lvl off one mob at a time taking 2-3 mins to kill like XI, and guess what those days are dead. To the ppl saying well it took me a year to lvl in xi well it took me 2 months to get 75. How fast you level and what you do to get there is up to you.
