And they want to re-introduce Battle Regimens, like skillchains. The current xp mobs would never be alive long enough to do them.

I don't want to only use them on boss fights. I would prefer longer battles in xp parties. With a balanced party. With having different melees to skillchain (Battle Regimen) and mages to Magic Burst (or what ever the FFXIV equivalent might be).

Even in FFXI, it turned into a weapon skill spam. I just really enjoyed the times with a balanced party, Skillchaining and magic bursting, was so much FUN.
You have summed up my feelings nicely.

We are given all sorts of cool abilities to use and the mobs are all dead before we can use them. The Twelve forbid we have an additional effect that is a debuff. What's the point in putting slow on a mob, (or pacification, or dispel, etc) when it dies in less than 10 seconds because that is the "intended" time for an encounter.

Mob difficulty (or at the very least, their hit points) should be increased, in turn increasing the capability of pty members to use their abilities while xping. Before you argue that xp would be shut down, it would be perfectly fine under this system to increase xp awards.

Instead of fighting 8 monsters in 30 seconds for an average 1000 xp each, i would rather fight 1 monster for 2 minutes for 15k xp. (or however they would choose to balance the real numbers.)

Grinding mobs isn't exactly the epitome of a proper leveling model. That aside, assuming we're going to get more dungeons and such in 2.0, I could see groups of mobs designed to encourage (not require) crowd-control or off-tanking. Something like a non-elite that can silence mages if left alive long enough, followed by two tougher melee-type elite mobs and a ranged attacker/caster mob. Of course, the downside, if you could call it that, is that you'd have to give all DPS crowd control so that they are all equally capable of joining the group.

Even in FFXI, it turned into a weapon skill spam.
Which shows that while Skillchains and MBs were nice on paper, in practice they were just...not too ideal.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

That type of exp was only used because the combat, TP, and pDIF/Level correction system was designed so poorly and our gear was so bad and irrelevant.

Curious to know how many players did the poll versus how many total active players there were at the time the poll was done.

The poll doesn't agree with your point of view. The poll must therefore be false.

I don't like fast leveling in MMO's that's why no other game held my attention other that FFXI. I agree i didn't like long party wait times and I don't want just a grind-fest for a game, but I remember when you saw a person that was level 75 you were almost in awe of them, because you knew they put in some serious time and effort to get there and to be wearing the gear that they were and it made you strive to excel.

I don't like everyone having all max level jobs either, it takes the uniqueness and fun and feeling from it for me. back in the day when everyone saw me, they KNEW i was a samurai no doubt, I had the Hagun great katana back when it was millions of gil, Haubergeon when it was a couple mil, Soboro Sukehiro when the area for the battle was level capped, etc. and the same for others. folks were career jobs, and took up the crafts to support that job etc. they took the time and effort and knew it in and out and what they were supposed to be doing and how to do it. xi was not for the weak or the spoiled pampered players that we have today and THAT'S what i miss and why i don't play xi now because that era is long gone. i don't want xiv to be starting out where xi has already ended up. easily leveling, watered down content and no "real" sense of accomplishment.

All of my hopes are now on 2.0 I didn't play xiv at launch because I didn't have a pc capable. but now I do and was banking on GW2 but after learning of 2.0 I came back home to Final Fantasy. At least leave the leveling as is and just make it not so easy 40-50 like people say and the same for beyond when they raise the level cap.

Nostalgia goggles can be harsh, most people playing XI in the COP days are very similar to people playing XIV now.

COP missions weren't difficult, they were just difficult for the people doing them. That example can be likened to many of the events for PUGs in this game.
