This I did not know. I so rarely go to the store since I tend to have bad willpower to prevent myself from spending when it's things that are stupidly easy to buy...so I just don't go there often except for sales to see if I really want something. They just recently won't allow you to buy orchestrion and mounts that you already own. It happened around the time they put in the gifting changes so it does have that capability in some form. Even still it is as you said it is on the buyer to make sure the item is being sent to the correct character if you have more than one. Or that you are buying something you can use on that character.
