Next Companion: MOOGLE!

Sadly Veritas I think that airship sailed long ago, never to return.

The Chocobo Companion is one of those early ARR systems that Yoshi ended up pretty much abandoning after a point (as I recall from the old Alpha and Beta forum the original idea was that SE intended to have other mounts also used as companions but for whatever reason SE never implemented it and just concentrated on the Company Chocobo for it exclusively, probably due to pragmatism as it would have required a large amount of resources to devote to getting it to work with mounts with wildly varied shapes and functions that would each require their own specific system).

Given the preference for most content now to be instanced, SE probably believes there is little need now for upgrading the existing system sadly, so the Company Chocobo will probably remain the sole Companion in open-world content - even though personally, I would love to have my old 1.0 Path Companion back, but that's a, to use a pun, whole different barrel of moogles.

I recall him revisiting this at a Fan Festival back in... Stormblood?

One of the questions from the audience was "will you update the companion system?" and his response then was "based on the data, there's very few people who have capped their chocobo". I think that's changed over the past several years.

I'm hopeful. Plus all the animations for the moogles are already in the game.
