It does seem like they've given up on the GC as they've eliminated all the ranks above Captain from the Quartermaster. I seem to recall it going all the way up to General? I might be misremembering that.

Either way I think they decided that continuing on in the GC ranks didn't make narrative sense and that the Squadrons weren't really working, in addition to having become redundant. I don't necessarily agree with the latter but I probably do agree with the former.

In regard to Squadrons specifically, the control of them was always clunky and cumbersome. Switching them to AI based like Duty Support would be an improvement but would mean scripting for a lot more classes per dungeon and updating a bunch of extra dungeons beyond the story dungeons to accommodate them. I'm not sure there's really much benefit there considering what Duty Support provides with a more engaging experience.

I do think that Squadrons, as they currently exist, should have access to every dungeon up to level 60 and allow Blue Mage in dungeons that have already been completed.. but alas I think the whole thing is likely to remain untouched moving forward.

I don't recall it ever being listed on the quartermaster's shop (since at least Stormblood) but the one place that has always listed the ranks is in the second tab of your character profile, and that still shows all the ranks. Beyond our current limit of captain, there are three ranks of commander then four of marshal, ending with champion.

I think we've unofficially progressed well past the level of champion, really...

Maybe one of these days they'll actually do something more with the Squadrons and bring them out of Heavensward.

I've said it in the past, but they really should try to find a way to integrate them to the Duty Support system...

Make it unlock much earlier, and then when you're doing dungeons with the Duty Support, rather than having literal nameless NPCs as filler for slots in later dungeons and for all of ARR's dungeons, you could pull from the Squadron.

Maybe they will update are grand company. It could be awesome to keep up with what’s going on with the grand company while we are on a different adventure.

I also want more GC content, they could easily integrate it into things like Deep Dungeons and Exploratory areas. Take the Squadron into the next Deep Dungeon for example.

there are still 8possible GC ranks to attain. Seccond Storm Commander, First Storm Commander and High Strom Commander,..., up to Strom Champion for example. The files for it are already in the game
