I prefer to play healer when doing duty for the first time. You have to be on your toes and prepared for anything. Especially in new alliance raid It feels so good to push through chaos and survive.

When I played healer in other games, I liked that I spent 80% of my time healing. It's the reverse in FFXIV, 80% DPSing & 30% healing.
If they want healers to heal more, design encounters around that, if not, then give them a proper DPS kit.

Yeah, you'll lose some of the filler, and sometimes have too much healing required to fully optimize the new DPS options in themselves, but... so what?
Ok ok, so... let's get them to design better healing buttons. Hoorraaayy!

We get to play interestingly for... 25% of the encounter, and boringly for 75% remainder?

    Wow lmao.

I love Astro’s healing kit, but I really wish it had a more interesting dps rotation. This game just doesn’t have a ton of incoming damage in most content. SE I want to do more than spam malefic for most of the fight.

    ???

Again... they're not mutually exclusive. Having our healing buttons not be weirdly stratified, stupidly obvious/rigid in their use cases (Bell, Panhaima, etc.), redundant or wasteful of former tools, etc., having an MP bar with the potential for positive gameplay impact instead of acting as a clunky rez meter, etc., do not prevent having more interesting downtime tools.

Nay, I agree totally with you. I would love for them to design it better on all front. Healing buttons, dps buttons, utility, heck even encounter (lol fat hope). Just chiming in that fixing only the healing side of gameplay won't magically fix all the issue the role have.

I forgot to put '/s' at the end so that was on me.

Oohhh, gotcha. I was confused hearing that from you at first. Was thinking "Yeah, downtime fixes are the more broadly applicable and probably easiest implemented of those means of improvements, but the two (or three, if counting encounter design separately) tend to work pretty damn synergistically."

Come on, if SE pitched 'hey we were thinking of making it so that if you use Swiftcast Verraise mid melee combo (or any of the later steps like Scorch), it doesn't break the combo', who'd say 'no I want to have the combo keep breaking'?

But then again, RDM is an alien job in terms of 'sensible design', considering that using Potions or Sprinting breaks Dualcast still

I remember when dualcast made mounting and teleporting instant. That was funny, wish they kept that in.

Wait, that was a thing? I don't remember that, but then again I didn't level RDM on release, I was... collecting Birch Branches to level BTN via collectables while waiting for Raubahn EX to die down, iirc. Sounds like the old Vanilla WOW 'Hand of Edward the Odd' interactions where you could instantcast hearthstone and stuff

So you can have a choice. All healers will still be viable in all content but it will kill these kinds threads about some people wanting more dps abilities while others wanting more support abilities.
All the time I say this in the Healer Forum: "4 Healer Model" is what I've come to calling it. We have 4 healer Jobs, let's have them play differently so everyone can find one they like. AST can have more buffs, SCH more DoTs, SGE more damage rotation, WHM be left as it is today. Everyone wins. Hell, WHM and SGE can both stay as they are today, point is, something that gives everyone an option.

They generally are. If they weren't, you guys would support the "4 Healers Model" since it offers both.

Because it is an either-or situation. The misconception is from the people thinking it's not.

At the very least, with these Devs and this type of design, it's VERY unlikely they could pull something off that wasn't.

You say this, but somehow just about every time I go in for my melee combo is when party members (including healers) decide to start dropping like flies.
