    Atmosphere

Maybe something's wrong with me and I hit my head on something, but I just wanted to share this with everyone, because it's probably one of the few ultra positive opinions about this game that I have.

I quit playing this back in October to switch over to WoW because Cataclysm was coming out, and the sheer amount of content in WoW made me miss having things to do (lets face it, XIV at the time had pretty much nothing unless you loved to craft and grind). So I quit, and played WoW, got through all the Cata content, raided all the raids, and just got bored when I went to make a new character (I had an 80 Troll before Cata, and made a Worgen and got him to 85 once Cata had come out). Then I quit WoW because Rift was coming out and I was in the beta for that, thinking that it was this really cool game that did everything for me that WoW couldn't.....needless to say I haven't even played it the whole free month yet, and I'm already done.

So yesterday, I bought FFXI again, and have started playing that, and made a new character in XIV as well, starting out in Gridania, and right from the get go, the atmosphere, and the way the world just "feels", in both games, is far more alive, and more....realized I guess in my opinion, than WoW's storybook world, or Rift's....I dunno what Rift is XD....but I just wanted to share that, because if anything can draw a person into these games (especially considering XI's old graphics and dated character creation, etc), then it would be the simple fact that the music and worlds that SE has created seem far more intricate, and alive.

I can't wait to see what Yoshida-san does with the game. Especially after reading that he's an MMO addict and that his favorite FF is VII and his goal when creating an MMO would be to make it as memorable as that game was to him....I think those are amazing goals, and after reading many interviews with the guy (especially the one on Eorzeapedia), I can honestly say that he's the type of person that should have been at the helm from the get-go, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for the game.

As a side note, I also think that the game's P2P status will go back in once the game has reached a point that the PS3 version gets released, I was curious what people's thoughts were on that....because personally, I almost want to start paying for the game, only because I know the money I'm paying goes towards ensuring that the development team has the money needed to make the proper updates, content, and expansions.

Rift is several MUD mixed together with WoW graphics
go to www.ironrealms.com and read all their mud basic story. you will see some similarities in story. I dud just by watching the rifdt intro on youtube.

When I think mmo atmosphere I think of community. And ffxi had the best community of the 30 mmo I played WoW and ffxi included. I even tried to rp on WoW and imo everyone in WoW don't know how to rp. They are all have spotlight-itis or attantion hogs. But I digress.
From the youtube vids I seen I like the setting ffxiv has. Its like you take ffxi and put it to pirates of the carribean with a cetlic theme. I like and can't wait to make my character and walk around the cities. And I mean that literaly. They look fun, a bit mysterious, and pleasing to look at. I personally don;t know what town I want to start from.

I like zelda games in starting in a forest. But I also like starting in mystical desert town. I also live in new england and love going to the port towns.

i agree, the world and different areas can be very immersive if you approach this game with that state of mind. i remember running around the black shroud and coming across this very shallow creek, the whole area was a shallow creek with a couple of small shores. i then come across the top of this waterfall and looking down i was awestruck. then i tried to run and explore it some more only to find high lvl monsters around that would one shot me so i had to turn back. i now have a goal and drive to get higher lvl because i do want to finish exploring that area and see what else is around there

    edit: spelling

WoW when I started- Wow, just look at this place!
WoW later plus after you get your flying mount- Point A->Point B Rinse. Repeat.

I haven't seen the all of the FFXIV world yet, but Coerthas is my favorite area so far. Wonderful music and amazing scenery!

Yes the atmosphere is what sells this game to me and is the most important aspect of an online RPG to me. If an MMO does not have the right atmosphere I can't stay there, FFXIV keeps me wanting to come back to soak in the world.

same here it just something different about ffxiv or ffxi that i love, maybe cuz it made where you only need one character then it grows on you unlike other games where you need a new character if you want to change class. the other mmo's are all the same. , wait in queue @_@.

This is one of the main drawing points that keeps bringing me back. And yes this does apply to both FFXI and FFXIV. I originally quit EQ and a raiding guild for FFXI and never looked back. When my FFXI LS finally imploded due to a power hungry Sack holder and non-existent Shell holder a few of us picked up a copy of WoW and joined up with my old EQ raiding guild. In 2 months the 3 of us were Lv. 60 and ready to join the rest of the guild with Ony, and MC. 3 months later the 3 of us were back in FFXI as we had seen pretty much all WoW had to offer. FFXIV may not be content heavy but at least its a world that I enjoy spending time in.

this is the main reason I want to play. I want to see the world I want to level and spend time on Moh Dhona (sp) (though I'm light hearted, I do enjoy darkness ) (i'm not a goth I just like dark things) One of my fav zones was the necropolis then the dungeon in sandy. Irony is that gusgen mines scares me. The zone in ffxiv where the dragon corpse is one of my faves the music is just right I like how dark it is.

(sorry i was in my dark mood sorry if I creeped anyone out)
