Endwalker Cutscene and Fight Effects causing 100% GPU Utilization and crashing

Hello! Beware for other players as I mention some details about an Endwalker quest in 6.0

I'm experiencing heavy GPU utilization resulting in video to my monitor cutting out and shortly after that FFXIV crashes. My PC remains on with fans running at max but is unresponsive and I have to force shutdown. It first occurred a few weeks back while I was soloing The Whorleater Trial, he'd crash a wave over the platform and then the crash would happen. I booted back up the game and redid the trial without a crash.

I've been free of the problem until today where I was able to recreate it consistently.
Watching the cutscene at the end of the quest, Where Knowledge Leads, my GPU spikes to 92% usage when the Ea first blow up into the purple mist and then maintains 75% as Yshtola speaks at the outer edge of the mist region. If I let the cutscene proceed any further, my GPU will spike to 100% then the crash happens.
After having the cutscene crash on me three times, I skipped it and watched the rest on youtube.

I proceeded through the story to make it to "The Dead Ends" duty and started a run with a Trust. I made my way to the first boss fight, Caustic Grebuloff, where he proceeded to do his second wave of the miasma attack during the wind and swiftly my GPU usage shot up to 100% and crashed my game and system again.

I'd like to figure out a resolution before I finish the expansion in case this happens during a critical moment in the duty or during a final cutscene.

I'm very sorry to hear that you've been experiencing this crashing and are unable to continue with the game. I'd like to ask does this also occur on other characters or other locations? or has this only been occurring in a specific zone or on specific characters?

I would like to recommend giving these troubleshooting steps a try as they may help with the crashing that you've been experiencing:

- As you did mention you had updated graphics drivers, have you tried a full clean reinstall for your graphics card drivers?
- Manually update the sound driver if available/possible as it does appear to still be using a 2021 driver. (If this is the latest available driver then you may ignore this)
- Update your Windows OS. Make sure to install any optional updates that may be available. (If this has been completed previously - try to do a Windows repair)
- Disable any programs/overlays running in the background (Discord, Nvidia, MSI Afterburner, etc.)
- You may also try to perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything. Then once the system reboots with only the essentials, try to run the game once more.
- Make sure that any anti-virus/firewall programs on your PC are either temporarily disabled or has the appropriate exceptions made for Final Fantasy XIV when patching or re-installing to ensure no files get blocked or become corrupted.
- Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.

Hey Eenkalzet,

I ended up reaching out directly to SE through a ticket submission. A friend recommended I try that as well since he has had great interactions through that. They had me try everything in your list except checking the sound driver and a few other unlisted items. Sadly none of those worked and I believe that 2021 sound driver is going to be tied into a piece of Sennheiser hardware they aren't updating anymore.
The story doesn't end happy because I was trying some final things like dynamic resolution and after another crash my PC wouldn't boot. It ended with having to run the PC through integrated graphics and no GPU plugged in. Something with my GPU is fried at this point so I'm trying to make use of the warranty on it.
At the end of the day, I believe this is an issue specifically with my GPU, I believe it to be faulty. I'll be logging back in with a new GPU here in a couple days hoping that cutscene and the duty run flawless.
