This was a good thread++

What I remember kind of being funny was the original thread that was posted about the 2017 statement got locked https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...=1#post4182235
Funny how yoshi-p wanted mr happy to reiterate that point and yet everything they've done has actively backed people away from that point.
Ahahahahaha! You mean they really told people they were locking threads when people just kept insulting each other for hundreds of pages and they actually said "thanks" for feedback no one on the job design team is listening to? How quaint!What I remember kind of being funny was the original thread that was posted about the 2017 statement got locked https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...=1#post4182235

We really be out here having the same debates for over half a decade.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess.
It's never been mandatory to do damage as a healer in casual content (and in some cases, even extremes), and yet some people act like you just threatened to eat their first-born child when you tell them they shouldn't be able to have maximum contribution from just mashing one singular button for 70% of the fight.What I remember kind of being funny was the original thread that was posted about the 2017 statement got locked https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...=1#post4182235

True but some people took this as they didn't need to do dps in savage fights.It's never been mandatory to do damage as a healer in casual content (and in some cases, even extremes), and yet some people act like you just threatened to eat their first-born child when you tell them they shouldn't be able to have maximum contribution from just mashing one singular button for 70% of the fight.
Regardless, I would really appreciate a transparent discussion about what they actually want of the healers, how that correlates to the experience of playing a healer in solo content, normal content, and hardcore content, and how they feel about the unrelenting criticism the healer role continues to receive from at least a modest subset of players as well as if they plan to ever do anything about it, and if not, why?
For example, if they really want Sage to be the healer designed for players with criticism like ours, what are their thoughts on Sage failing to satiate our community of players? At the very least, why not open up communication with the community on how to develop Sage as a healer for players like us? Since they don't seem capable of doing it on their own, collecting feedback specifically from players upset with the state of healers could help them redirect Sage to be that answer. Of the people who aren't happy with healer design, I know just making Sage the healer designed for what we're looking for is not the answer most want, including myself (though I will admittedly be content with that outcome), but it's something.
The biggest concern is that they take the fact that SGE is popular to mean that SGE has managed to satisfy us and they'll now continue this design path. It's really hard to know what they're thinking as they don't actually communicate with us clearly and they seem to be taking great pains to avoid any and all questions pertaining to healers or job design in general.Regardless, I would really appreciate a transparent discussion about what they actually want of the healers, how that correlates to the experience of playing a healer in solo content, normal content, and hardcore content, and how they feel about the unrelenting criticism the healer role continues to receive from at least a modest subset of players as well as if they plan to ever do anything about it, and if not, why?

That's a worry I have as well, but at the same time, there's a part of me that has too much faith in their ability to recognize that the job's popularity isn't from the people the job was initially designed for, nor has it pulled people from other roles into healing. If they want Sage to be the bridge for the unhappy healers to return to the role, then they would have to recognize that the job hasn't succeeded and should pivot. If all they care about is that some people like it though, then perhaps you're right. Or perhaps they really are so oblivious that they cannot tell the people that Sage was specifically addressing are still dissatisfied.The biggest concern is that they take the fact that SGE is popular to mean that SGE has managed to satisfy us and they'll now continue this design path. For my part, I've submitted feedback through the in-game support desk before as well outlining why Sage has failed and have repeatedly reported Toxikon as being broken and not working as intended. I'm doing what I can at least, which may not ultimately mean much, but I can't say I'm not trying to bring awareness to the issue.
They thought monks hit a brick wall during ShB, and yet they don't think healers are already at that with their healing oGCD actions versus encounter design?Regardless, I would really appreciate a transparent discussion about what they actually want of the healers, how that correlates to the experience of playing a healer in solo content, normal content, and hardcore content, and how they feel about the unrelenting criticism the healer role continues to receive from at least a modest subset of players as well as if they plan to ever do anything about it, and if not, why?
The band-aid answer to healing becoming more engaging would be, for Dawntrail onwards, simply adding more tankbusters, more raidwides through a fight if they want to add more healing actions (or charges for existing stuff). That doesn't sound really fulfilling to me, though, because you simply map the healing ogcds, like what already is, just in a busier capacity. It becomes a game of memorization rather than quick thinking or reflexes.
That doesn't future proof, though... imagine how 8.0 will be in that regard?
What they need to do is to redesign the damage profile. Can they do that without having to touch old content? Idk...
