If they are regularly logging into your account, you should change your password and enable 2FA.

This usually happens when you fall for a phishing scam (such as visiting links sent to you in /tell) or if you purchased RMT services, but can also happen if your password is very simple and they bruteforced their way in.

My other guess is having obtained some sort of virus that was able to keylog or something similar.

happened to me once, I did not click or download anything either, getting hacked is a rare occurance but not an impossible one, especially for a company like SE with poor server infrastructure

That’s not how that works. They didn’t hack SEs systems, you had a known password or fell for a scam.

How come your account did not get soft locked when someone from another region logged in? Mine does that as soon as I log in from a different computer.

Also, no one can log in to your account if you don't provide the info. Installing any 3rd party tools, downloading files from strangers, using the same password on multiple services (they usually leak) or when registering for FF14 related sites. I would suggest running an antimalware/antivirus software and changing your password to a unique one.

You don't have to click on a link in an email or advertisement to be at risk.

Visiting the wrong website can put all information on a computer at risk. Keep this in mind if you share your computer with others. It could be nothing you did but something they did.

Being in the habit of using the same email address and password for everything you do online puts you at major risk, especially if you use a simple password for every online account and don't change it. Data breeches are extremely common these days. Hackers will brute force spam captured email and password combinations at popular websites seeing if they can score a hit.

It's up to you to protect your online presence. Have multiple email accounts that you use for different purposes and have different passwords for each online account you have. Change the passwords occasionally.
