This is the worst side content to date since Stormblood. It is boring and shallow. Very disappointed that they intend to make more of this in 7.0.

Depends if they intent to actually develop on it, rather than just copying and pasting. A lot of systems in this game have gone through several iterations before they've managed to create something even remotely substantial.
If I had my way with it, I would continue it, but I would give people option to craft their own items for submission to earn Cowries, rather than gating the majority of it behind the workshop and weekly challenge log. I would also include treasure hunts, both for solo and grouped with additional rewards, and include an exclusive sightseeing log for it. Just to name a few examples.
It's not a bad foundation, but it could have been so much more and still has the potential to be such, IMO.
This is CBU3 we're talking about here. They don't know how to build on foundations.Depends if they intent to actually develop on it, rather than just copying and pasting. And then people would just do that to rush through it. The early levels where gathering had to be done manualy to get xp were on that actualy not good design as it again did something like that.
The idea is that its side content that slowly expands over time. And to me the design should focus on relaxing as much as possible. Manual gathering should only be a fall back here (and sadly its a horrible one that that).
I think a few things realy need to be considered as potential fixes:
- Resource exchanging. As the granary is limited in delivering certain resources, you could quickly end up missing a few. If you could exchange some resources, that might mitigate the requirement to gather manualy (for example 3 of x can be converted to 2 y).
- Resource tokens. Potentialy obtained through your hub (and leveling increases rate of obtaining). With the intent to always buy the resources (could potentialy prevent the need from having to gather entirely. Especaily if you are running low on 1 specific resource).
- Better gather income from manual gathering: Gathering is truly not rewarding here! Any time spent here was better used for gathering resources you can sell on the market. By the time you even obtained 1 materia on your island, you could have gotten several from the open world gathering. And if something is needed here to avoid too much cowries being obtained, you can use a resource bar that boosts this income (similar to how xp works, where being offline slowly builds up a boost). And note, the boost here can be as high as 5x normal resources
- Add some additional chalenges to gathering. Create some special nodes (similar to open world timed nodes), that require a bit more thinking (a small minigame), and allow players to rotate a bit between these.
I don’t see anywhere near the potential in IS that I saw in diadem 1.0
Diadem 1.0 was terrible but you could really see the potential it had, which got refined in eureka and Bozja
IS feels like they can’t really do anything with it other than adding what would basically amount to custom deliveries or battle content in which case it’s basically just another eureka and not really the farming sim they sold it as
Each to their own.
I enjoy it. It's a nice distraction from running back-to-back 'battle' content all the time - something we can do at our own pace, in our own time.
Yeah - that is one setback. Teleporting to Moraby Drydock to travel across is a bit of a nuisance. Though I guess they can't put an Aetheryte on the island due to the instanced nature of them.
